in housing
process
Special to The I - TAC
With the Tarleton cam-
pus growing on what
seems like a daily basis,
University administrators
have taken the step
toward a future of housing
on-campus students by
beginning to develop new
housing projects.
On the first day of class
for fall 1999, Tarleton
housing accommodations
were booked to 120 per-
cent capacity. Students
were living in television
rooms, doubling up with
resident advisors, and
stacked into every nook
and cranny on-campus.
"If a mother calls and
asks me where her son
will be living," said
Director of Housing and
Residence Life, Charlie
Gibbens, "my answer is,
well, he's not where he
should be but he's not in a
mop closet, either."
As of April 18, universi-
ty housing was not at
capacity, but was inching
toward the limit.
"We're not full yet, but
we will be by the fall,"
Gibbens went on to say,
"We probably will be
faced with leasing an
entire apartment complex
near the campus."

According to official
results, 1,587 students
voted online in this week's
elections. Students elected
David Sweeney to be presi-
dent of the student govern-
ment association, Kane
Urban to be vice-president,
and Staci Owens to be
Texan Rider. The referen-
dum for a new recreational
sports center was also
passed by an overwhelm-
ing majority.
Sweeney, a junior speech
communications and pre-
law major, won by 169
votes over opponent Elvis
Moya.
"I'd like to thank every-
one who supported me,"
Sweeney said. "Myself,
along with Kane Urban
and the executive council,
when chosen, will do our
best to represent the stu-
dents well."
Urban, a junior business
administration major, was
unchallenged in his race
for vice-president, but still
gathered 1,368 votes.
Urban said he is looking

Couple looks to share love story
By Jodee T ennyson
Special to The J-TAC
Marcus Edwards and
Lindsay Welsh will be say-
ing "I Do" on May 20 like
millions of other couples in
Texas; So what makes this
couple so unique? There's a
good possibility that when
they say their wedding
vows, it will be in front of a
national television network
camera crew recording
their special day for view-
ing by millions of people.
"A Wedding Story," pro-
duced by Lifetime, is a tele-
vision program that takes a
couple with a unique and
interesting love story and
goes public with their big
day. To be selected, the
couple must feel comfort-
able sharing their story on
national television and be
willing to com-
plete an exten-
sive question-
naire prior
to selec-
tion.
The
question-
naire asks how the couple
met, how the proposal
came to pass, ups and
downs the couple has
experienced in their rela-
tionship, and what plans
they have made as a couple
to make their wedding day
special and unique.
Once selected, camera
crews arrive two days prior
to the big event and follow
family, friends and the cou-
ple through all the final
details leading up
to and including
the ceremo-
ny. The
broad-
cast

requires complete approval
from the couple, the church

the coordinator for the
reception.

The J-TAC & Grassburr
take top honors at TIPA
Special to The J-TAC
Last Friday, Tarleton's Student Publications had people
at the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association conference
in Waco asking, "Who the heck is The ]-TAC? What is a
Grassburr? Where did these people come from?"
After a respectable showing last year with 17 awards
between the two publications, The j-TAC and Grassburr
won a combined 24 awards including first and second
place, respectively, overall in Division II and III at TIPA.
TIPA is a state-wide journalism organization with over 40
member schools in participation. The j-TAC and
Grassburr competed against schools of similar size such
as West Texas A&M, Sul Ross State University and Texas
Lutheran.
The J-TAC also took first in news series for its coverage
of the cancellation of the bonfire in articles by Amanda
Gilbreath, Kristin Franklin and Caleb Chapman. Kisty
Hoffman, former editor in chief and current editor in
chief Tohma Morrison won first place for their picture
story depicting last spring's Centennial celebration. The
Grassburr placed first for its packaging of the opening
section by Gilbreath and Stephanie Conner.
The Grassburr won eleven other awards in addition to
its second place finish overall and first place opening sec-
tion. Kelli Lehman placed second in sports section copy

Students voice
opinions of Poo
By Tohma Morrison
Editor in Chief _
When the Poo story broke in last Week's J-TAC, stu-
dents all over campus were buzzing about the pending
suspension. The j-TAC wanted to quickly get the pulse
of students' opinions about the issue.
This poll is not scientific and reflects the opinions of
only those Tarleton students who chose to participate.
