game series against the nationally

By DAMEON MYRES
, Special to The J-TAC
The Texan baseball team
was roughed-up when they
took the field in Durant, Okla.
last weekend, losing three of
four games to SE Oklahoma.
Despite the three losses, the
Texans remained above ,500
bringing their overall record to
18-16 on the season. SE Okla-
homa improved to 14-16 overall
with the three victories.
Game one went to the Sav-
age Storm on Friday afternoon,
4-1. Daniel Hoegh hit a two-out
grand slam in the bottom of the
third inning and SE Oklahoma
would not look back. It may
have been Brian Babbitt's (5-2)
only mistake of the game as he
was handed his second loss of
the season.
SE Oklahoma's C.J. Stewart
(2-0) dominated the Texan of-
fense, giving up only one run
off five hits,
Tarleton's Daniel Myane
was responsible for the lone
Texan run when his double in
the sixth inning scored Justin
Davis.
In Friday's nightcap,
Tarleton's Josh Kelley and SE
Oklahc)ixii$ J^lay Glover both
had amazing performances and
it would come down to who
made the first mistake - advan-
tage Kelley.
In the top of the fourth, Ty-
ler Maytum pounded a double
to deep left-center field to lead
off the inning. He later scored
the only run of the game when
he came home on Heath Her-
ron's sacrifice fly to right field.
The run would give Tarleton
the 1-0 victory,
Kelley (2-2) pitched a seven-
inning complete game on his
way to a three hit shutout. He
struck out six batters, walked
one and had four innings where
he. went three-up and three-
down.
That would be the only
game Tarleton would win as the
Texans dropped both games on
Saturday.
SE Oklahoma had a 2-1
lead in the top of the third be-
fore Maytum drove in Charles
Desmarias on his single up the
middle to tie the game. But the
Savage Storm brought in two
runs in the bottom of the fifth
off Todd Westerfield (5-2) and
would go on to win the game
4-2. It was Westerfield's first de-
feat in his last six starts,
Daniel Bruce went two for
two at the plate in the series fi-
nale, but the Texans were not
able to produce any runs and
lost 6-0.
Bobby Chilton (0-2) was un-
able to get out of the first inning,
giving up four runs, off three
hits and a "walk and was quickly
relieved by William Devillier.
The Texans start LSC South
