A new high line telephone to the
North Draw'is;an enterprise now m
its incipiency. The prospect has
been under consideration for the
past two months, but nothing definite ¡
was accomplished unfil Wednesday
morning, when a contract was entered
into by C. R. Moreman, Ch&iley
Hodges, J. W. Moreman, and A. S.
Kendrick, the terms of which per-'
mit the eretfíion of the line as soon
as ten subscribers have been secured.
We are told that more than this
«umber have already agreed to .sub-
scribe, so the line is assured.
Up in the northwestern part of
this State the Hereford breed of cat-
tle has become what might be called
• a "business fad." The reason is
that "they can eat the grass from
under the nose of any other breed
and starve it to death." It is the
"rustling" breed. 2t is the com-
pact and healthy breed. For the
large ranges, where the-cattle have
to travel far to earn .their living,
the Hereford stands at the head,
though on smaller ranges Ihe Short-
horn or Durham and other breeds
are are its equal. Such cattle be-
coming a fad with the owners of the
large pastures, it is no wrnder that
there became what may be termed
"a white-faced cow" cast among
the the people. Indeed the owners
of herds of Herefords became the
.aristocracy of cowdom. Some idea
may be gained of the altitude of the
owner of this breed of cattle from
the following from the Roby Banner.:
The fs :t that Mary had a lamb
I* of little interest now,
If Mari' wants to go the gaits,
She must get her • white-faced cow.
