..First Meeting of the Panhandle
Clinical Society Prqvets a
Success.
The different members of the
medical: profession of the Panhandle
i >Lave formed themselves into an or-
ganization called the Panhandle
• Clinical Society, the purpose of
•which is to hold monthly meetings'
.and discuss the different cases
coming under.the members' obser-
vation.
Their first meeting wan held in the
.J. O. 0. F. f ha] 1 ;*tt Hereford on
'Wednesday, May 14, a large dele-
gation being present.
Many interesting subjects weci
brought up before the meeting auicl
- were freely discussed. Several
notable cases were brought up before
the clinic, including the Spikes' and
ether cases of gunshot wounds, «ap-
pendicitis, tonsilitis npneumoaia,!
lagrippe and other diseases, a.id
¡their discussion was highly enjoyed
by all.
A vote of thanks was extended to
"the local members of the society lor ^
the hospitable wanner in whrch the
visiting members*were entertained
■ and for the splendicr success of the
. meeting, after which the body ad-
journed to meet in Amarillo on
Wednesday, June Ml, it being the
.sense of the meeting that these
• meetings should fee held on the sec-
ond Wednesday of each month at
different points in the Panhandle.
These meetings.*are destined to be
■ of great help to tie ftofession as
' individual cases are brought up and
their discussion tends to enlighten
; the members who have -not ' had
similar cases under their observa-
tion. Every member of the profes-
. sion in the Panhandle should atccir.ce
become a member of this body-
Base Ball -Game.
A game of base ball will be one
• of the features of the Union -Sueday
► School picnic to be held next Tues-
day. One nine-composed of the fol-
lowing players will be dressed in
• "Mother Hubbards'!, which costume
will be amusing to say the least:
Clark, catcher.; .Boyd, pitcher;
.Munchas, 1st base; Bell, 2nd base ;
Daniel, shortstop; Hubbard, .."'rd
base; Dyer, left field; Harbison,
jnght field ; Parker, center field.
The opposing nine will be com-
posed of the following players:
Wolf, pitcher; Mclna's, catcher;
-Orr, 1st base; Isaacs, 2nd base-
Lee Hubbard, 3rd base; Card well,
shortstop; W. Hubbard, center field ;
Mercer, left field; DeVaney, right
field.
As these are practically the same
nines which recently played a ten-
inning game with a score of 10 to 11,
a good game may be looked for.

ROSWELL STONE.
Committee Appointed by the College
to Investigate Its Merits.
Last Saturday a committee, con-
sisting of Judge Jno. E. Ferguson,
Contractor J P. Snyder and L. B.
Servioe, Tfcar.t V"> Roswell, N. M., to
investigate the.raarits of the stone in
the quarries near that place. The
committee were met by E. P. Ras-
mussen, owner of the quarries, who
showed them "a good time as well as
explained the qualities contained in
the building material. He also
gave them a. large ¡block show rg the
different ways of dressing the same, I
which they brougnt to Hereford and 1
it can now be seen at Witherspoor. I
& Gough's office.
The committee seem to be very
favorably impressed with the pro-
duct, which is somewhat on the sand
stone order, and the chances .are
that the new colfcge building will
be erected from this material, though,
on account ef the absence of some
of the directors, a deciding meeting
has not been held.
Notice.
Comarxncing Monday May 19, 1902,
the undersigned blacksmiths of Here-
ford will extend no more credit to
anyone. A strictly cash business
will prevail.
H G. Tucker.
W. H..Howard.
The regularr-outine of business was
transacted. In addition the com-
missioners ordered that sealed bids
be called for for the -drilling of a
well, erecting a to*m., windmill,
tank, etc., on the court house
.grounds. The county has long
needed such improvements and we
are pleased to note that they arc to
be tna¿e. A petition is also before
the commissioners requesting that
they ordtr an election to increase
the school tax from twelve cents to
twenty cents on each $100 valuation.
This measure is a good one and
should be carried-without a dissent-
ing vote, as money .spent for school
.purposes ¿s money veil invested.
The matter of moving the jail from
its presort location (it now being
located on a public street) to some
point ir.sfce the court house grounds
will also be brough' up. There will
also be other matters for the court
to act upon before adjournment.
Bank Statement.
Notice.
Notice Is hereby given that here-
after our business will be conductad
on the cash basis. This is made
necessary on account of the immense
amount of bookkeeping required on
so many small sales. Please do*not
ask for credit as it is impossible for
ur- t) extend it.
