* XIT LANDS FOR SALE CHEAP
ON ACCOUNT OF THE CAPITOL SYN-
dicate Company's (better known as
the XIT's) intention to discontinue their
cattle business their large ranch, consisting
of over 3,000,000 acres and situated in the
best part of the Texas Panhandle, will be
sold in any size tract—to suit the purchaser.
This land is all fenced and has numerous
wells and windmills, and other similar im-
provements which make
it the best in the Pan-
handle. Improvements on land purchased
will be sold to the purchaser at the actual
cost to the Company.
Nearly 2,000,000 acres of this great ranch
has been sold and it will
be only a few months

Farmer
will have the one million acres left in beau-
tiful homes and farms.
It has been demonstrated that the small
stock farmer can make more money com-
pared to his invest-
ment, than can the
large ranch owner,and
the splitting up of this large ranch (until
recently the largest ranch in the world)
will be a great boon to this class of farmers.
The Pecos Valley railroad (a branch of
the Santa Fe System), the Chicago, Rock
i , Island and Pacific and
I *aitr°ad I the Fort Worth and
Denver City Railroads are now intersecting
this great ranch and the Choctaw road is
now building from Amarillo to Tucumcari,
N. M., and will traverse the entire Deaf
Smith county portion of the ranch. It is
also expected that the Santa Fe branch,
running to Albuquerque, N. M., will be built
from Bovina in the near future.
This land, being situated in the western
part of the Panhandle, lies close to the
1 1 mountains of New
I to«air" 1 Mexico and therefore
is more susceptible to good rains than is
land farther east.
This section of the Panhandle is noted
for its mildness and even temperature—
both in winter's cold and sum-
mer's heat—and has the right

altitude for an invigorating and dry atmos-
phere. The nights are always cool, insur-
ing sound and refreshing sleep.

SCHOOL TRUSTEES TO MEET.
Superintendent Lefevre Wants
Them to Assemble in Austin.
Austin, Tex., Nov. 1.—One of the
many evidences of advance and
invigoration of the State's work of
education is the spreading interest
on the part of trustees of school
districts in the duties and oppor-
tunities of their essential part in the
great work—this work which has
been justly described as the prime
business of a republic. The annual
meeting of the State Teachers'As-
sociation in Austin on December 29,
30 and 31 seems an opportune time
tor school trustees to assemble and
take counsel together and v/ith rep-
resentative teachers.
I therefore call a meeting of the
trustees of common and independent
school districts and of school com-
munities, on Tuesday, Dec. 30, at
Austin. On that afternoon various
sections of the State Teachers' As-
sociation will hold meetings in con-
venient rooms in the main building
of the State University, arid it has
been deemed best to hold the first
meeting of trustees in the same
building at 1:30 p. m. This first
meeting may adjourn after an hour
or so to enable trustees to attend
various section meetings of the gen-
eral association, which will open at
2 :30. At 4 :30 or 5 p. m., when the
said section meetings will have con-
cluded, the trustees could reassem-
ble to continue their own special de-
liberations.
I beg to urge the self-sacrificing
men to whom this call is addressed
to make the attendance at the said
■meeting full and representative, and
I pledge my best endeavors to do
all that is within my power to ren-
der the meetings productive of val-
uable service and practical useful-
ness to all who attend.
I also beg all Texas papers to
copy this notice.
Respectfully and faithfully,
Arthur Lefevre,
State Superintendent of Public In-
struction.

Helpful Reading.
Some newspapers print matter to fill up
space. Much of this is really harmful read-
ing. It is the aim of the Semi-Weekly
News to give helpful reading. Thousands
will testify to its helpfulness to them. Ask
your neighbor.
The farmers' department has helped
many. It is not the theory of farming writ-
ten by college professors and others up
north on conditions that don't fit Texas. It
is the actual experience of farmer* here at
home who have turned orer the soil.
