Miss Roxie Witherspoon left Mon-
day for Farwell where she will be
the guest for some time of her sister
Mrs. Guy Rogers.
Mrs. G. H. Guinn and daughters,
Misses Lora and Effie Lee, spent
Saturday and Sunday with relatives
in Canyon City.
Mrs. J. F. Barker spent Saturday
and Sunday of last week in Amarillo.
Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Irwin left
Monday for a trip to Kansas City
and St. Louis. They will likely be
gone two weeks.
Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Cardwell
returned Sunday from their wedding
trip and will now be at home to their
friends in this city.
Dr. and Mrs. Quarey, who have
been the guests of B. L. Hammock
and family for the past ten days,
left Tuesday for Roswell, New Mex-
ico, where Dr. Quarey goes for his
health.
Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Evants en-
tertained a small party of friends
at their country home south of Here-
ford at dinner Monday. Owing to
the inclement weather several of the
invited guests were unable to be
present, but those who braved the
weather felt many times repaid for
the disagreeable drive they were
compelled to make to accept of the
genuine hospitality which is ever
characteristic of the Evants home.
Mrs. G. W. Barcusand MissSudie
Bell Warren delightfully entertained
a party of ladies Saturday afternoon
from 4 to 6 o'clock in honor of their
sister, Mrs. Wm. F. Norris who is
visiting them from El Paso. As the
guests arrived, they were invited
into the dining room where they were
served with fruit nectar from a punch
bowl banked with flowers, and which
was made more beautiful by the
thought that these sweet peas and
other blossoms that have cheered our
homes so long were the last greet-
ings of this season. Progressive 42
was engaged in for an hour, after
which the hostess served a dainty
luncheon consisting of fruit, salad,
bread and butter, sandwiches, olives,
coffee and mints. Before the guests
departed they were favored with sev-
eral piano selections rendered by
Miss Collins, and a delightfully hum-
erous reading by Miss Gregg. For
some time the social life of Hereford
has been rather dull and the pleasure
of this little affair was greatly en-
hanced by this fact. Mrs. Norris is
not a stranger in Hereford having
visited here last season and the la-
dies were glad to renew their ac-
quaintance with her. Those present
were: Misses Collins, Vaughan,
Jowell, Gregg, Francis and Georgia
Hammock, Jessie and Morris; Mes-
dames W. H. Garrison, Gibson,
Meabows, Fox, Warren, Lipscomb,
Irwin, Story, Arnold, Price, Slaton,
Oberthier, Snyder, Collins, Russell
and Hough.

In honor of Mr. J. A. Fox's birth-
day, Thursday, October 21, Mrs.
Fox surprised him by having a dinner
party. The occasion proved a very
pleasant one for the small party of
¡friends united. The dining had
j no significance for the honored mem-
j ber of the household, however, as he
¡ seemed quite shocked when asked by
¡ Rev. W. M. Baker at the dinner
table what mile stone he had reached
that day. Merely another example
of the strenuous life of the typical
American too busy to make note of
such an eventful date.
Miss Anna Collins very pleasantly
entertained a small party of young
married people at "42" Tuesday
evening. An invitation to the Col-
lins home always means a good time
and several hours were happily spent
on this occasion in playing games
and listening to sweet music furnished
by the hostess and some of the
guests. Refreshments of chocolate
and devil's food cake were served at
a late hour, after which the guests
departed pronouncing the evening a
delightful one. Those present were :
