Chester.
Lacking a means of identification
for a community «outheast of Here-
ford, the ladies have undertaken to
supply the deficiency, and have
christened it Chester, in honor of
the township of that name in Iowa,
from which a number of our resi-
dents hail. Chester, Iowa, was
in the same manner named for the
village of Chester, Vermont, some
fifty years ago, by the early settlers
of Iowa, who came from the "Green
Mountain" state.
•'The Chester Thimble Club" is
the name of an organization recently
formed by our ladies which is to
meet every two weeks at the home
of one of the members for the pur-
pose of drawing together the ladies
of the community and the rents of
masculine hose, etc.
We are indebted to the ladies of
the "Thimble Club" for the com-
munity name. The meeting this
week was with Mrs. Cocking.
The oyster supper held by the
Wyche Sunday school at the Hays
farm house last week proved a great
success both socially and financially.
Enough money was raised to pur-
chase an organ for the school and
an instrument has been secured for
use in the services next Sunday.
The presence of the auto and sev-
eral carriage loads of young people
from Hereford was a pleasant sur-
prise, and contributsd largely to
both the organ fund and the fund of
pleasure during the evening.
The grist mill is in fine condition.
Bring along your corn for meal,
wheat for Graham, and maize for
chops. Hicks & Harrison.
