every corner one stumblles upon pronounced provincialism from other lands, foreign customs,
coats and queues, and the angularity of race characteristic.
The puffing breweries and settlements of neat cottage homes bespeak the ubliquity of the
G(erman, now inextricably solidifying into the backbone of our civilization. I)own there
amongst the languorous odors and summller suns lie loses none of his familiar )personality, his
cosmopolitanism rendering him an expected tone in the motley blending of this, as other
perspectives.
It will repay a morning stroll to rummage about in the tea stores, junik shops and bric-a-
brac collections of the celestials, who have dovetailed their names and local habitations into the
niches of the town. Th'lie weird designs in cups and saucers will charm the eyes andll probaly
loosen the purse strings of every connoisseur, while the quiet little fellow with the very long

alongside the palatial business block of this ancient-modern city, a curious sight is afforded the
