Case No. 24.
Josefa Tamez. This woman was arrested for practicing
medicine without a license January 27, 1914, and also for
vagrancy in that she claimed to be able to foretell future
events. She was fined $50 for practicing medicine and $10
for being a vagrant.
Case No. 25.
"Prof." Garland, a great forteller of future events and
magnetic healer, was arrested on two charges, one for
practicing medicine without a license, and one for vagrancy.
He was fined $50, and one hour in jail on his plea of guilty
for practicing medicine. The charge of vagrancy was dis-
missed on condition that he leave the city, which he did.
Case No. 26.
Mrs. M. Dauson. This woman was using a few prescrip-
tions she had gotten from some physician, and was treating
her neighbors for various and sundry things. She was ar-
rested for practicing medicine without a license and on her
plea of guilty she was fined $50 and one hour in the county
jail.
Case No. 27.
Francisco Navarro. This old Mexican was treating his
patients by the hoodo route. He would go through a soul-
racking performance and proceed to pull a snake or a lizard
or some other something out of the parts affected. We
had him arrested for practicing medicine without a license,
and at his trial he conducted his own defence, resulting in
his being fined $200 and sixty days in the county jail.84
