The Menace
THE DOCTOR'S PRAYER.
Oh good Lord, deliver me from too few patients and non-
paying patients, from hyperdermic syringes that don't work,
from book agents, from consultants who steal our patients,
from rheumatism, from collecting agencies, from stupid
nurses, from tire trouble and Christian scientists.
Oh good Lord, deliver me from static machines in damp
weather, from boils on the back of my neck or over the is-
chium, from anti-vivisectionists, from tuberculosis cases,
from tag days, from auto-fractures, from infant foods, from
anti-vaccinationists, immanuel movers and the treponema
pallidum.
Spare me good Lord, from people who call me "doc," from
suits for mal-practice, from gossips over female patients,
from pretty nurses and jealous wives, from the "wrong num-
ber" fiend, from telephone consultations, from investment
circulars and from shoulder presentations.
Save me I pray thee, from the man who wants me to help
his affinity out of trouble, from optometrist, from Freuds
Analytical Psychology, from new thought and damaged
goods, from white slave articles and eugenic propaganda,
from breaking cat gut, from neurasthenics, from meta-am-
ido-phenyl-paramouth-oxyhenolin, and from the sponge I
left behind me." AMEN.114
