Mr. Ensle To Teach
a New Course That is a Must
This fall, a new course will be offered that all qualified
students who can possible schedule it should take.
LAW OFFICE MANAGEMENT: One Semester Hour.
INSTRUCTOR: John F. Ensle, B.B.A., J.D., University of
Texas; Assistant Professor of Law.
PREREQUISITE: 40 Semester Hours.
CLASS MEETS: Wednesdays - 5:30 - 6:30 P.M.
In recognition of the fact that many young lawyers enter
solo practice of law without the opportunity to observe the
operation of an efficient law office, a course is being taught
this fall entitled LAW OFFICE MANAGEMENT. It will be the
purpose of this course to familiarize the student with the
establishment and operation of an effective law office. Profes-
sor Ensle states that the following topics, among others, will
be treated during the semester: Determining office location
and layout; selecting office machines, equipment and library
materials; employing office staff; establishing filing and
accounting systems; selecting an appropriate insurance pro-
gram; interviewing and counseling clients and determining and
collecting fees. The course grade will be determined by the
final examination.

Dean Walker and Professor Ensle
Attend Conference
on Standards of Criminal Justice
On June 12th and 13 th a conference on criminal justice
was held in Austin sponsored by the American Bar Associa-
tion, Texas Bar Association and the Governor of Texas.
South Texas College of Law, in connection with its
project for the American Bar Association relating to Minimum
Standards of Criminal Justice, sent two delegates to the con-
ference — Dean Walker and Professor Ensle. The conference
was also attended by representatives from The Texas Legisla-
ture, League of Women Voters, Houston Legal Foundation,
American Civil Liberties Union, other law schools, members of
the staff of various District Attorney offices within the state,
and other persons interested in the administration of criminal
justice in the State. The conference was held in the chambers
of the Texas House of Representatives.
The proposed revision of the Texas Penal Code was dis-
cussed as well as the ABA Minimum Standards and the extent
to which Texas applies the Standards of Criminal Justice in its
penal process. Justice Tom Clark spoke at the final session of
the conference.
As a result of the conference, recommendations regard-
ing changes in the Penal Code and criminal procedure in Texas
will be recommended to the next State Legislature.
EDITORIAL
ANNOTATIONS, under its present editors, will attempt
to reflect the views and wide range of thought at South Texas
College of Law and hopefully be interesting, readable and con-
troversial enough to induce large numbers of students to take
time out of busy schedules to read and respond. ANNOTA-
TIONS will not attempt to be a poor man's Law Review or
Law Journal - we will leave that to the more scholarly. Yet
we want to contribute something we will be proud of. Our
editorial policy will be simply this: to write whatever we be-
lieve pertinent while keeping in mind the permanence of the
printed word.
Despite some rumors to the contrary, ANNOTATIONS
is published free of censorship or prior approval by the admin-
istration. Thus if you have something controversial to say, and
perhaps wish to remain anonymous, submit it and it will be
published at our discretion.
So come and join us! Larry Perry has. He volunteered his
help and is now our Assistant Editor. The posters you have
seen at the school recently which advertise ANNOTATIONS
were Larry's creations. As suggested in those posters you, too,
can help by volunteering to be a reporter, or contributing
articles, letters to the editor, pictures, cartoons, news, want
ads, or by selling advertisements which will appear in this
paper. Thus far the quantity of student contributions has been
disappointing. So why not give us a hand and let the "Student
Voice" truly be heard?
