SBA President Welcomes New Students
By Janet Littlejohn
SBA President
I would at this time like to
welcome the incoming freshmen
on behalf of the Board of
Governors of the Student Bar
Association (SBA) to South
Texas. You have made a sound
decision in your choice of law
schools.
Each of you automatically
becomes a member of the Student
Bar when you register. The
student government which runs
this association, the Board of
Governors, is composed of a
president, vice-president, secre-
tary, treasurer and two senators
from each class. Our offices along
with most other student organiza-
tions, are on the third floor. You
are welcome at any time. We
have meetings twice a month on
the first and third Tuesdays which
you are also welcome to attend. If
you have an inclination for
politics, you can run for one of the
above offices when elections are
held in February or March.
Many of the student activities
are arranged through the various
organizations within the SBA.
However, the SBA also offers
ways that you may get involved.
Professional Orientation Day is to
be held on Saturday, September
16 and would be helpful to those
of you who have not made a
concrete decision at to what area
of law to enter.
There are also several standing
committees which need personnel
periodically. Watch for announce-
ments on this.

yearly and hopefully will be sent
out by late September.
In the SBA office there is a
coffee service for a minimal fee
and a telephone for your use (no
long distance calls, please).
which is helpful but
because it is run by students, it
needs those who can spare an
hour or two a week to check files
in and out.
A student directory is printed
This fall on Saturday, Septem-
ber 9, the SBA with the help of
other student organizations are
putting on an All School Picnic in
Memorial Park. For the price of a
ticket ($3.50 per person) there
will be beer and barbecue. You
can enter Race Judicata if you are
a runner, get together a team for
baseball or volleyball and gen-
erally get to know 'your fellow
students, the faculty and alumni.
There are many other activities
that you can enter depending on
your inclinations and the spare
time you have available. Please
let us know if there is anything we
can do to help you.
I wish you the best of luck with
your studies and the profession
you have chosen. It can be
exciting and rewarding.
