Perry wants more affordable homeowners insurance
ABILENE, Texas (AP) — Gov. Rick Perry said he wants home-
owners insurance reform at the top of the agenda when legislators
kick off the 2003 legislative session Tuesday.
Speaking Monday to homeowners, business leaders and city
officials in Abilene, Perry said legislators will debate issues that
could make homeowners insurance more affordable and allow
more Texans to purchase homes.
Perry said insurance rates are high in Texas because of the
state's inclement weather patterns.

Lieberman enters 2004 presidential race
STAMFORD, Conn. (AP) — Sen. Joseph Lieberman jumped
into the 2004 race for president Monday, criticizing President
Bush while promising to "talk straight to the American people" and
show them he is "a different kind of Democrat."
Lieberman, who could become the nation's first Jewish presi-
dent, told students at his old high school that during the Bush
campaign two years ago, "we were promised a better America, but
that promise has not been kept."

U.N. inspectors: need more time in Iraq
UNITED NATIONS (AP) — Top weapons inspectors said Monday
they need months to search for Iraq's weapons of mass destruction,
but getting that time may depend on whether Iraq provides new evi-
dence about its nuclear, chemical and biological programs.
Chief U.N. inspector Hans Blix said Iraq must answer outstanding
questions about its weapons programs or may face the possibility of
war.
