CONWAY HOIT
Mission Hidalgo Co. Texas
That a railroad -will be built to con-
nect Brownsville and HJdalgo and to
extend from the latter place north-
ward probably to San Antonio on
which construction will probably be-
gin with in a month is news that was
given the Express by Judge D. B.
Chapin of Hidalgo the other day
when he was. in San Antonio in the
interest of the legal matters in con-
nection with the project.
The backers o fthe new enterprise
according to him are R F. Scott
A. G. Hubbard John C. Gibbons
Ralph Speas Sargent Braden T. J.
Van Zandt. Paris; John Closner Hi-
dalgo and J. M. Johnson Sr. Jlerece-
desf The first twenty-five miles. Judge
Chapin informed the Express are al-
ready surveyed and the contract for
the first fifteen miles let to Sam Rob-
ertson of San Benito the well known
contractor who built the St. Louis
Brownsville and Mexico railroad and
who Judge Chapin says will probably
break dirt on the road within a
month.
Further information regarding the
new projec was given the Express by
Judge Chapin to the following ef-
fect: Construction will begin at
Ebeneezer in .Hidalgo county and
fthe first dirt will be- broken near the
plantation of ohn Closner. The first
section built will be between Hidalgo
and Brownsville which will bo com-
pleted within six months and later if
negotiations succeed the line will be
be pushed nortthward towards San
Antonio. The latter part of the en-
terprise will of course depend upon
the encouragement received along
the proposed line and particularly
from San Antonio.
Subscriptions amounting to nearly
?180000 have been secured a part of
which is already paid so Judge Chap-
In asserts.
The promoters o fthe road are said
to have been in correspondence for
some time with the members of the
San Antonio Business Men's Club on
the subject of this regarding this en-
terprise and a canvass is expected to
be made of that city shortly in the
interest o ftta proposed road.

trt much vaunted aggr'igation from

of Houston" made its appearance
here and engaged our hoi's in what
the fans had hoped would be an ex-

only one .game the .first' was there
any element of competition In the
other two games Brownsville was first
and there -was "no second."-As a mat-
ter of fact the first game'should .not
have been .allowed toJgo beyond the
usually nine Innings but an unfor-
tunate error or two tantalized the
visitors and gave them hopes for vic-
tory which nevercame.' ' On the
whole the invaders "while awkward
in action seemed capable. of playing
better ball than they played here.
Either they .were frightenedby our
pitchers or by the .generally impene-
trable defense of the Brownsville
fielding . Whatever it was they failed
lamentably at the bat and made mis-

same time full -credit must be given
