HIGHWAY TIPS
Do not be a "puddle splasher.".It
| doesn't contribute to traffic safety
if you hamper other drivers' vision
with an extra amount of muddy
spray on their windshields. And
splashing pedestrians with muddy
water is not a good way to make
friends for your business.
It should be easy to see that you
should keep it "easy to see" by
cleaning the headlights lenses
now and then and by keeping the
windshield wiper in good operat-
ing condition.
Obey the school law and saVe
some child's life! After a school
bus comes to a stop to receive or
discharge students, drivers from
all directions must come to a stop,
but may then proceed past the
school bus at not mare than 10
miles per hour.

In Study Course
Merchandising, buying and sell-
ing, wholesaling, retailing — they
are to America as food, air, and
light are to the human body. With-
out them we would waste away to
nothing; we would perish.
Since it is widely agreed upon
that the future of a nation de-
pends upon its youth, it is im-
portant that these things are in-
cluded in the education program.
That's why Distributive Educa-
tion classes were introduced into
the United States schools several
years ago. This vocational program
has taken root and grown rapidly,
and Texas is one of the leaders in
its growth.
The course was introduced to
Rusk High School three years ago
and has grown steadily. Progress
is being made.
Since then it has enjoyed a
huge success with the co-operation
of the merchants of this area, and
under the capable guidance of
the school administration and the
D. E. coordinator, Linden Binion.
j Binion has worked hard as a pio-
neer in this relatively new field,
and the merchants and business-
men have joined together in aid-
ing him in the project. Binion said
that the real worth of the training
received by the boys and girls can
be measured when a citizen cm-
Your family will be enthusiastic about this combination of cake,
ice cream, and lightly browned meringue. It's an easy dessert to put
together for a family treat, and pretty enough to win compliments
from guests.
Packaged shortcake dainties from your grocer's ready-to-eat cake
department are the startinR point. These sponge cuds, made from a
cookbook recipe, are just right in shape and size for individual servings,
and make it possible to put Alaskas together quickly for oven browning.

HIGHWAY TIPS
Are you a slow driver and a
road hog? It is illegal to drive at
slow speeds on rural highways.
That slow vehicle creates hazards
because they increase the fre-
quency of passing which is danger-
ous. Furthermore, slow vehicles
hog the roadway which is intend-
ed to move vehicles at legal
spier's.
There a?•« al.-j laws pedea-
ttyuaa! /. pcJeslraíin lus r.o legal
rifiht to walk in a street wh^n
there is a side walk available on
either side of the street.
Do your "brakes" and "head-
I lights" work together for you?
They should work well together
for safe driving. Brakes and head-
lights are a sort of team. Keep
your brakes in tip-top condition,
so thoy can stop your vehicle
within the distance your light
beam reaches at night. Keep your
lights focused properly and th?
lenses kept clean, so your brakes
will get all the lighted stopping
distance they may need.
