What were some of your chores in the house?
The biggest of my time I went to school, and I completed
up to the 9th grade. But anyway I had a lot to do at the
house. Cut wood tote it in and I cooked, because we had a
wood stove and things like that. I would also have to cut
wood.
Would you just cut a lot of wood, or would you cut it as your mother
needed it?
I would just cut it as she needed it.
What were some of the foods you all would eat for each meal?
For breakfast we would have milk, bread and syrup, but
sometimes we would have eggs. And for dinner we would have
peas and bread, or corn and bread or milk and bread; some-
thing or other like that. We never had to buy anything but
flour, because we raised pigs and made our lard, also we
raised corn for making corn bread.
How would your mother go to the store to buy groceries?
She would go in the buggy, and she would take me some-
times. But I didn't like to go to the store, I was so
petty or something. I would want to leave before she fin-
ished. And I would cry because I wanted her to hurry up
and get through. I went sometimes, but I didn't like to
go much.
Did you all have a large family?
Yes, there was 13 in our family; 11 girls and 2 boys.
Can you name all of them for me?
Yes, I think I can. Let me see; Elisa Hooper, Mary
Ann Thompson, Nancy McGlothin, Palina Jackson, Ocelia Mc-
Glothin, Daisy McGlothin, Alberta McGlothin, Prencelia Mc-
Glothin, Maggie McGlothin and Captoria McGlothin. I think
I got the 11 girls. Let me see, I got Maggie, oh, and Lan-
doria McGlothin. There are only two living today. That's
me and my sister, Maggie.
