Fire Injures Man Fri.
A Rusk man, O. C.
Collier, is in John Sealy
Hospital in Galveston,
being treated for burns
sustained in a fire Friday
evening.
Collier was taken to
Tyler Medical Center
Hospital's Intensive Care
Unit Saturday with second
and third-degree burns
over 30 percent of his body.
His clothing caught fire
when the house he was
renting burned late Friday.
Rusk firemen fought
about 20 minutes before
bringing the fire under
control. The home owned
by Collier's neighbor, Mrs.
Mattie Majors, was
completely destroyed. An
adjacent building received
damage to the porch and
roof.
The victim's clothing
was on fire when he ran
from the house, a
neighbor reported. Collier
poured water from a can
over himself to douse the
flames.
The house was located
near Dickson and Frazier
Streets, next to Major's
Cafe.
