SEC. 2. The management and control of the public free schools
of Muleshoe Independent School District as created by this Act
is hereby vested in a board of trustees that shall be composed of
seven persons, who are resident citizens and qualified voters in
said district, and each member of said board of trustees shall
before entering upon the discharge of his duties as such, subscribe
to the official oath provided by the General Statutes of the
State of Texas. The board of trustees of the present Muleshoe
Consolidated School District No. 1, as same as has been heretofore
organized are hereby continued in office until the board of
school trustees of the Muleshoe Independent School District
herein created is duly elected and qualified as such, and it is
hereby provided that the county judge of Bailey County, Texas,
shall order an election immediately after the passage of this
Act for the purpose of electing the board of school trustees for
the said Muleshoe Independent School District.
SEC. 3. The Muleshoe Independent School District, as created
by this Act, shall have and exercise, and is hereby vested with
all the rights, powers, privileges and duties of a town or village
incorporated under the General Laws of the State for free school
purposes only and the board of trustees of said Muleshoe Independent
School District shall have and exercise and are hereby
vested and charged with all of the rights, powers, privileges and
duties conferred and imposed by the General Laws of this State
upon the trustees of independent school districts, incorporated
under the General Laws of Texas for free school purposes only.
SEC. 4. The outstanding bonded indebtedness heretofore voted
in Muleshoe Common School District No. 5, now a portion of
the Muleshoe Independent School District as herein created, shall
remain in full force and effect and shall be chargeable against
the territory which voted it, also the local tax assessment as
