CHAPTER 1003 H.B. No. 162
1 AN ACT
2 relating to the requirements for a petition to change the name of an
3 adult.
4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
5 SECTION 1i. Section 45.102(a), Family Code, is amended to
6 read as follows:
7 (a) A petition to change the name of an adult must be
8 verified and include:
9 (1) the present name and place of residence of the
10 petitioner;
11 (2) the full name requested for the petitioner;
12 (3) the reason the change in name is requested; [en4]
13 (4) whether the petitioner has been the subject of a
14 final felony conviction; and
15 (5) a legible and complete set of the petitioner's
16 fingerprints on a fingerprint card format acceptable to the
17 Department of Public Safety and the Federal Bureau of
18 Investigation.
19 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2003, and
20 applies only to a petition requesting a change of name filed on or
21 after that date. A petition requesting a change of name filed
22 before the effective date of this Act is governed by the law in
23 effect on the date the petition is filed, and the former law is
24 continued in effect for that purpose.
