INTRODUCTION
The present volume constitutes the 1925 edition of
John F. Worley Directory Co.'s Brownwood City Direc-
tory. The work embodies a complete epitome of the civic,
commercial, social and industrial interests and activities
of the municipality. It is a modern Directory in all its
parts and includes all of the essential features which
proved so satisfactory to our patrons in the previous issue;
these have been retained and amplified, and improve-
ments have been added as suggested by experience in order
to add to the value and usefulness of the Directory, thus
fully meeting the requirements of patrons; the approba-
tion and continued patronage accorded the work are con-
stant incentives to better service.
The publication has had the benefit and advantage of
the complete organization and resources of the publishers,
and of the skill and experience of their corps of enumer-
ators and compilers added to the courteous co-operation of
citizens in the production of the volume.
The statistics presented in this introduction are im-
pressive as indicating the important characteristics of the
city and of the territory of which Brownwood is the center.
The several essential departments of the Directory
are set forth in the order following:
THE MISCELLANEOUS DEPARTMENT, pages 9 to
24, contains information relating to city, county and state
government, cemeteries, churches, commercial organiza-
tions, courts, hospitals, labor organizations, clubs, post
office, railroads, schools, secret organizations, Federal
officers, post offices in Texas, etc.
THE ALPHABETICAL LIST OF NAMES OF CITI-
ZENS, business firms and corporations is embraced in
pages 25 to 190.
THE STREET AND AVENUE GUIDE AND DIREC-
TORY OF HOUSEHOLDERS extends from pages 191 to
230.
THE CLASSIFIED BUSINESS DIRECTORY is in-
cluded in pages 231 to 267, and shows the various manu-
facturing, mercantile and professional occupations, com-
piled under headings appropriate to the class of business
pursued. This department will be appreciated as a special
trade directory. The directory is the common inter-
mediary between buyer and seller.
