of the respective terms for which they were elected and qualified,
and the first election of trustees hereunder shall be for
only an additional number sufficient to make up a full board of
seven trustees.
SEC. 3. All obligations, contracts and indebtedness for free
school purposes, heretofore, legally created by and now existing
in and against the territories embraced within the said Common
School District No. 15, as herein described are hereby imposed
upon the district herein created, to beexecuted and discharged
by it; and the said Damon Independent School District,
herein created, shall be held to have assumed the discharge of
all such obligations, contracts and indebtedness, and the same
shall be enforceable and collectible from, paid off, and discharged
by the said Damon Independent School District, hereby
created, as if originally created by it; and, whereas, by authority
of an election held in and through Common School District
No. 15, as heretofore existing, said Common School District No.
15 has isued bonds in the sum of twenty thousand ($20,000.00)
dollars, dated June 10, 1921, some of which bonds are still outstanding,
the proceeds of which have been used in constructing
and equiping the public free school building in said district,
therefore, all such bonds as have been heretofore issued and
approved by the Attorney General of the State of Texas and are
outstanding and unpaid at the time this Act becomes a law, are
hereby validated and shall be paid by Damon Independent School
District, hereby created, as successor to said Common School
District No. 15, issuing such bonds.
SEC. 4. The title to all money and property, real and personal,
belonging to the use of the free schools of said Common
School District No. 15 of Brazoria County, Texas, the territory
herein described from whatever source derived, shall, when
this Act becomes a law, be vested in said Damon Independent
School District under the control and management of its board
of trustees and their successors in office, as herein provided.
And all funds on hand to the credit of said Common School District
No. 15, when this Act becomes a law, shall thereupon vest
in, be credited to, and turned over to the said Damon Independent
School District. And the local school taxes heretofore
levied in Common School District No. 15 are hereby continued
in force and the levy and assessment of school taxes against the
property situated within the district hereby created are hereby
ratified, validated, and all the uncollected portion thereof shall
be collected as other school taxes are collected for said Damon
Independent School District.
SEC. 5. Said Damon Independent School District shall have
and exercise, and is hereby vested with all the rights, powers
and privileges and duties of a town or village incorporated under
the General Laws of the State for free school purposes only, and
the board of trustees of said Damon Independent School District
shall have and exercise, and are hereby vested, with all the
rights, powers, privileges and duties conferred and imposed by
