Where the Ueer Went.
It has leaked out that recently some negroes
employed at A. II. Frank's stores In tho I rench
building drank and carried away 27 kegs of
beer which was stored thoro. The men
have been discharged and tho matter has been
kept very qulot

The hydrant at. tho Second ward school has
been running for about three weeks and as a
result the "padding" below the school and the
grounds ure Inundated with water which Is
covered with a dangerous scum. When this
cum drlei malaria may bo expected If steps
ani not taken to disinfect tho grouud before
the children assemble.
They Didn't Fight.
TJie Dallas Tlmo says : "Tho County Judge
and the County Collector of Iloxar oounty fit
a fight a few days ago. The papers are silent
as to which whipped the other." This I de-
cidedly a mistake as the Jury declared tlmtthe
gentlemen referred to wero not guilty of light-
ing and us they heard all the testimony they
ought to know.
The Light Again to the Fiont.
The "Times" having published a falso an-
nouncement of thoNewell-Strlbbllng wedding
which the Light declined to publish disputes
tbo statement that the I.HliiT was cognisant of
the true ditto of the wedding. When it Is re-
membered that the Liqmt was the only city
paper represented at the marriage and tho
only paper who published a correct record of
the wedding It will readily be seen who Is
right.
llltten by a Dog.
On Wcdnosday Joey th lnfuut child of Mr.
I. N. Peterson was bitten by a dog on the
plaoo where he sits down but ho la appcrently
doing well. The dog to which its owner was
much attached was afterwards poisoned on
the Impression that It would prevent hydro-
phobia. That awful desease comes from tho
virus In the dog's teeth at tho time of tbo
biting and It In absurd to suppose that the
subsequent condition of the dog can In any
way effect tho person bitten.
Marrow Escape of a Child.
Yesterday a two-year old girl living neur
Pecan street picked up a cake lying on the
sidewalk and began to eat it. The mother saw
ber and Immediately tool? It from her. Notic-
ing a peculiar smell about tho cako sho handed
It to her husband and It was then found that
It was poisoned. Probably It had been thrown
br envious neighbors to poison chickens but It
might have occasioned the death of that child
Such action Is criminal negligence and should
bt severely punished.
