days since of a fine gold watch by some vigi
lant pickpocket.
Mr. Kalteyer's cement headquarters are
being established on Acequia street next door
to the Callaghan iron-bound building at the
corner of Houston street.
The International Building and Loan
association meet to-nlgnt at Struve's hsll. All
persons wishing to examine into the merits
and workings of this association are Invited to

Stockmen are returning to-dsy from their
convention at Austin. They organized there
with the election of officers and have left a
strong lobby to gad around the XXX Legisla-
ture now in session.
The last will and testament of Charles
Mueller were filed for probate with Ihe County
Clerk's office this morning. He leaves his
real and personal property scheduled at
$2500 to his wife Maria Mueller.
This year being the centenary of or-
ganized Methodism In America it Is proposed
by the church North to take special steps at
Its general conference to be held in Fhlla-
delsbia in May next towards celebrating It
properly.
The residence of Rev. Frank B. Ticknor
near the International depot was robbed last
evening of some jewelry and wearing apparel.
Mr. Ticknor is an editor as well as a minister
hence the thief's blunder In entering his
domicile.
In the District court this morning its
time was altogether taken up in hearing of the
case of the State vs. Martin Stahle for horse
stealing. The jury retired alter the charge of
Judge Nooaan and were still In retirement as
we go to press.

General Mackenzie's case Is reported no
better. His physicians pronounce his trouble
psralysis of the brain. He has lost all spark
of intelligence so thst he does not know
where he is and does not recognize any of
his most intimate acquaintances.
Alderman Bolton's resolution concerning
back taxes and the investigation of the ac-
counts of the City Clerk and Collector
was not Intended to Include the well kept
readily come-at-able folios of Clerk Claudon
who only entered upon his duties on January
I 1883.
By reference to our telegraphic news it
will be seen that Lieutenant John J. Augur
son of General Augur recently in command
here escaped from the Bloomlngdale Insane
asylum during a terrible storm and died from
cold and exposure. Lieutenant Augur was
wtll known and had many friends here.
A woman in distress and evidently of
weak mind appeared at the Mayor's office
this morning and doffed her sun. bonnet to
show the marks of her recent illness. She had
just come from Austin having wandered irom
Northeast Texas. The Mayor offered to re
turn her to Austin where they should take
care of their own poor.
Mr. James Trueheart a San Antonio
young man and brother of the first named
member of the firm of Trueheart & Girasd
has returned from an extensive trip on the
Continent. He took in on his student ram
bles England Germany France and Spain.
Mr Trueheart graduated with distinction at
the University of Virginia and his rambles
are a fit and practical supplement to his colle
giate course.
