the Third ward and Hint It had not re-
sulted In detriment.
City Knglnecr Mntlaok also made nn
explanation In a similar manner. Ho
also declared that tho map of the Third
ward Is now fully underway and will
soon be completed fur presentation to
tho City Council. That work Is now In
Iho hands of n commission nnd not the
City Knglncer.
Mr. llnmbleton snld ho simply Intro
duced Iho minority report from tho fact
that $.(J0 had been impropriated for es
tablishing lines In tho Third ward.

Mr. Matlnck again snld that the Clly
Knglnecr had nothing whatever to do
with the survey of tho Third ward. Tho
work was much greater than that re
quired In the Second ward and as II has
been llrst completed It should be

wnrd hns not been delayed In any

Aldermnn Lock wood moved to adopt
the majority report.
Alderman Story said ho very much
depreoated tho action of Alderman llam-
bleton and he could nut for the Wo of
him understand why Alderman llnmble-
lon snouiu nave n jealous eye on the
Second ward. It had been stated to him
that no delay had taken place nnd that
everything had been done to further tho
progress of his ward. Tho Council had
been wrestling with that question over
since the speaker had been In the Coun-
cil and there had been more money.nnd
more time expended than In any other
part of the city of San Antonio tor tho
Inst 20 years. It was n notorious fact
that Captain Smith expended two-thirds
of his time trying to arrange the tangles
In that ward. The dllllculty was that
some vary lino houses hud been built In
Olive street under the Impression that
they would have advantage of -15 vnrns
nnd Instead of which ho did not know
whether by Ignorance or neglect they
have only 20 varan: now they come and
ask the Council to allow them the same
as the balance of Iho city. Although
Aldermnn Story knew his friend llam-
bleton to possess a good heart and clear
head he thought he had got up wrong
on this question and ho was satlslled
that when he (Aldermnn llnmbleton) re-
flected he would Inko a dlll'orent view
of It.
To the speaker's mind the report of
the city was satisfactory to everybody
and ho hoped tho report of the com-
mittee would he adopted.
The committee's report wns ndopted
Alderman llnmblclon' being tho only
dlisentlng voice.
Petitions nnd Ordinances: Aldermnn
I'auly reported unfavorably upon tho
petition of Dr. T. Ilcerinnnfiirreductlon
