EXCITEMENT IN ROCHESTER.
Widespread Commotion Caused
Dy mat iiemarKablo state-

The story published In Ihesc columns
recently Iroln the Rochester N. Y.
Democrat created n deal of comment
here ns It has elsewhere.' Apparently It
caused even more commotion In Roch-
ester as tho following from Ihe same
11 per shows:
Dr. J. II. Hcnlon who Is well known
not only In Rochester but In nearly
every part of America sent nn extended
article to this paper n few days ago
which was duly piibllihed detailing his
rcmarknblo experience nnd rescue from
what seemed to be certain death. It
would bo Imposslbe to enumernlo the
personal Inquiries which hnve been
made at our office ns to the validity of
tho article but they havo been so
numerous Hint further Investigation or
the subject was deemed nn editorial ne-
cessity. Yt 1th this end In view a representative
or this paper called on Dr. Ilenlon at
his residence on Andrews street when
the following Interview occurred:
"That article of yours Doctor has
created quite a whirlwind. Are the
statements about the terrible condition
you were In nnd the way you were res-
cued such as you can sustain?"
"l.vcry one of them nnd many addi
tional ones. 1 wos brought so low by
neglecting the first nnd most simple
symptoms. 1 did not think I wns sick.
It Is true 1 had frequent headaches; felt
tired most of the time; could eat noth
ing one day nnd ravenous the next: felt
dull pains and my stoinnch wos out of
order but did not think It meant any
thing serious. '1 lie medical profession

diseases for years and It Is hlgn time It
censed. The symptoms I have Just men
tioned or nny unusual notion or Irrita-
tion of the water channels Indicate the
approach of kidney disease more than a
cough announces the coming of con-
sumption. We do not treat the cough
but try to help Ihe lungs. Wo should
not wnslo our time trying lo relieve the
headache pains about the body orother
symptoms but go directly to Ihe kid
neys the source of most of these nil
inentJ."
This then Is what you meiiut when
you said that more than one-hair tho
deaths which occur arise from Ilrlght's
disease Is II Doctor?"
"Precisely. Thousands of diseases are
lorturlnir neonln to-dav. which In renlitv
are Ilrlght's disease In some of Its many
forms. It Is n hydrahended monster
nnd the slightest symptoms should
strike terror to every one who has thetii.
I can look back nnd recall hundreds of
deaths which physicians declared at the
lime were causeu uy pnrntysls npo-
uex) iimn intense pneumonia malarial
ever nnd other common romnlnlnta
which I see now were cnuied hv Hrk-lii'a
disease"
"And did all these cases havo simple
symptoms nt first?"
"Every one' or tlem and might have
been cured ns I wns by timely use or tho
samo remedy I am getting my eyes
thoroughly opened In this matter and
think 1 am helping others to see the
facts and their possible danger also."
Jlr. Warner was visited nt his estab-
lishment on North St. Paul street. At
first he was Inclined to be reticent hut
learning that the Information desired
wns about Drlght'a disease his manner
changed Instantly and he spoke vcrr
earnestly:
"it is irue mat jingnrs disease had
Increased wonderfully nnd wo tlnd by
reliable statistics that from '70 to 'SO
Its growth was over 2.K) per cent. Look
nt the prominent men It has carried oil':
Everett Sumner Chase Wilson Car-
penter Bishop Haven Folger Coirax
and others. Nearly every week the pa-
pers record the death of some prominent
man from this scourge Recently how-
ever the Increase has been checked
ami 1 attriuute tuts to the general use or
my remedy."
"Do you think many peoplenro aflllct-
cd with It to-day who do not renllze It
Mr. Warner?"
"A prominent proftssor In n New Or-
leans medloal college was lecturing be-
jure 111a emus uu tue suuject 01 iinglil'S

mlcroscoplo analysis and was showing
the students what the Indications of this
terrible malady ere. 'And now gen-
tlemen.' ho said 'as we have seen the
unhealthy Indications I will show you
how It appears In n stnto of perfect
health' and ho submitted his own fluid
10 tue usual test as lie watched thero-
suits his countenance suddenly changed
his color end command both left him
and In a trembling voice hn said: 'Gen-
tlemen I have made a painful discovery:
I have Ilrlght's disease or the kidneys.'
And In less than n year he was dead.
The (lightest Indications or any kidney
dlfllculty should be enough to strike ter-
ror to any one."
"You know of Dr. Henlon's case?"
'Vc I have both read and henrd or
"It Is verv wonderful la It mil?"
o more so man a grent many others
that have come to my notice nt having
"You believe then that Ilrlght's dis-
ease can be cured"
"I kuowltcan I know It from my
own and the experience pf thousands of
prominent perrons who were given up
to die by both their physicians .and
friends"
"You speak of your own experience;
"A fearful one. I had felt languid nsjil
untitled for business for tears. Hut I
did not know what ailed me. When
However 1 round It was kidney dlfllculty
did the uoctors I have since learned
mat one or the physicians of this city
pointed me out to a gentleman on the
street one day saying: 'Thero goes a
man who will be dead within n year.' I
believe his words would have proved
true If 1 had not providentially used tho
remedy now known as Warner's Safe
Curo."
Dr. S. A. T.alllmore. allhonirh husltv
engaged upon some matters connected
wiiii 1110 stato Hoard or Health or
which ho was one of the nnnlrsts cour-
teously answered tho questions Hint
were propounded him:
"Did VOU make n rhemlrn! nnnlv.l. of
tho enso or Mr. II. II. Warner some
three years ago Doctor?"
"Yes sir."
"What did this analysis show you ?"
"The presence of albumen nnd tube
casts In great abundance."
"Ann what did the symptoms Indi-
cate?" "A serious disease or the kidneys."
"Did you think Mr. Warner could re-
cover?" "No sir. I did not think It possible."
"Do you know anything nboht Ihe
remedy which cured him?"
"Yes. 1 have chemically analjredlt
and llml It puro nnd harmless."
We publish tho foregoing statements
In view of tho commotion nhloh tho
publicity or Dr. Henlou's article has
caused and to meet the protestations
which havo been made. The doctor
was cured four years ago and Is well
and attending to his professional duties
to-dav Tho standing or Dr. Ilenlon
Mr. Warner and Dr. Latllmore In the
community Is beyond question nnd the
statements they mako cannot Tor a mo-

ence shows that Ilrlght's disease or the
kidneys Is one or Ihe moat deceptive nnd
dangerous or all diseases that It Is ex-
ceedingly common nnd Hint It can he

HIE MOSSBACK.
A Letter In Ills Defense on Gen-
eral Principles.
Editor Sin Antonio Llslil:
I should be tbankMl for spare In Jour
paper to correct an Impression that
seems inclined to rank mo with that
olassof persons who denounce "moss-
backs." I am not well enough Informed
to be promoted to Hint class. I do not
even know the meaning of the term
"mossback." Do not remember or hnv-
lngsecnlt In a dictionary but may bo
there "for n' that." The time wns when
I consulted a dictionary frequently. I
do not consult one now because I have
none. 'J Is said that "n rolling stone
gathers no moss" from which I Infer
that n atone does gather moss providing
It don't roll.
Men who do not ramble from their
business galher wealth providing they
aro thoughtful Industrious and provi-
dent; and this may be tho reason why
they are called "mossbacks."
I have not ono word to say In denun-
elation nor in derision of "mossbacks."
I believe that If all men were like them
there would not be en much poverty
nnd misery In this world ns thero now Is.
"Oh happiness! How Tar we flee
Thy own sweet paths In search or thee."
1 am or opinion that there are hun-
dreds or "mosshncks" In this oily who
rnnk with those who might In some
sense be called the saviours nl the
earth.
It does not change the nature or 11 case
to give It n bad name. These "moss-
backs" aro thinkers planners pro-
ducers nnd accumulators or wealth.
Therefore when I nm told Hint starving
meu nre begging for work and cannot
get It. I do not wonder why these so-
culled "mosshncks" do not club together
nnd formulate some plan by which these
starving men might be ghen employ-
luent. "No life can be pure In Its purpose nnd
strong In Its strife
"And nil life not be purer nnd more
perfect thereby."

THE CITY ATTORNEY.
Statements by Mr. Dollon and Mr.

"What wns jour reason for Introduc-

"I hnve heard It for 11 long time" re-
plied that gentleman "It has been re-
marked Hint Galley Newton had re-
ceived a fee from the gamblers Indirect-
ly not to prosecute them ror six months.
At first 1 did not believe It being that I
wns well acquainted with him In

lilt folks to long a timer but
nt the last election parties told me
posltltely It was a fact. When I was
speaking to a friend of mine the other
day ns to who I was going to support
for City Attorney I said I heard there
were three applications for It Walling
Yernor and Newton and I should give
n complimentary vote to Walling and If
I found he had nny strength I would
stand by him but If not 1 should stand
by Yernor because I had heard reports
about Nenton and I could not sup-
port him nnd during the conversation
1 stated my reasons that I had heard he
had received Tees from gamblers. Then
I snld If I had any evidence or the fact
of course I would vote against him. I
wasvthen told that I could net It In
black and white and I have It in my
possession over the signature of a per-
son who was a party to the transaction
and It was signed In the presence or two

Froni this gentleman the Lwiit report-
