the Government's military polloy had
been a constant failure and denied also
that Russia would go to Herat. The
motion for the production of papers was
then withdrawn.

KEMP A ORCHESTRA.
Tho First Performance ot These
Ladles In Son Antonio.
Last evening at the Mission garden
the Keuipa orchestra made their debut
In San Antonio. This pleasant resort
for the fatigued energies of city workers
was filled with a large audience who
were critical and appreciative. The lady
Instrumentalists of which this talented
family consist are alt executants of abil-

make comparisons amongso much merit
tho concerto by llerlot performed by
Miss Eva Kempa as a violin solo was
the most remarkable. This well-known
concerto In the hands of this gifted
young lady was exquisitely rendered
her boning being marvelous In one so
young. Anoiner spienuiarenuition was

Si'UiNariaLD May 7. A dispatch re
ceived here from Cass county states
that outside of Schuyler county Repub-
licans In the 3ltli Senatorial district
were M or CO ahead but up to the pres
ent hour 10:S5 a. m. nothing has been
heard from the former county. Repub-
licans In the House this morning were
very confident that Weaver.Itepubllcan
had been elected. The Indications are
now without all the returns being In
that the Republican candidate Is elected.
If the Republicans have carried the dis-
trict It would give them lUi votes on a
olnt ballot and li Slttlgantt anti-Logan
Itenunllcans should consent to abide br
the caucus decrees It would Insure the
election of a Republican to tho United
States Senate.
Later. Returns from the 31th district
where the election of a Representative
to the State Legislature took place yes-
terday are very meagre but so far Indi-
cations favor the Democratic candidate
Leeper although bis majority will be
small in comparison with the late elec-
tion. The Republicans did not put a
oandldate In the field till nearly 3 p. m.
i ney men aiiemptea 10 carry me elec-
tion with a rush. They had secretly
organized for that purpose. The Dem-
ocrats were very much excited here
over the report that the Republican can-

later reports make them feel easier.
