A Train on the Chicago and Alton Road
Stopped Dut No Great Lois.

train robbery occurred on tho Chicago
and Alton railroad to-night but owing
to the sudden fright or the robbers but
little booty was secured. As tho west
bound train on the way to this city left
Blue Springs 22 miles east of here
about II o'clock last night four masked
men appeared nt the smoking car and
were ahuut to board It. A number of

dalform and the robbers passed on lo

curred before the robbers disappeared.

A Good Foot Race.
Tho foot rnco between Somers and
Mortlson yesterday on Government hill
was attended by a large crowd many
citizens from the city being present.
The dlstnnce was 100 yards stakes $23
a side. Besides this there was a great
deal of money put by Mortlson's friends
which was covered by Somers friends
and won by them as Somers won easily
by a few feet. Time for Somers 10J

word go Somers Jumped away from
Mortlson and ran surprisingly well un-
