Aspermont! The Best Inland Town In Central West
SEARCH FOR
DEEP WATER
Deep Well Will De Sunk on
Famous Spur Ranch in
Dickens County.
Stamford, Texas, March 12.—
Acting under the instructions of
S. M. Swenson & Sons of New
York, P. P- Berthelot, one of the
local managers has closed a con-
tract with the American Wells
works for machinery with which
to bore a deep well in the heart
of the Spur property and the
contract has been made with N.
P. Minnieham to operate the
machinery. He has instructions
to go at least 3,000 feet if he does
not strike a flow of artesian
water sooner. A thorough test
will be made and it may be that
several wells will be bored in
different parts of the Spur prop-
erty. As soon as the wells on
the Spur property are completed
the machinery will be moved to
Stamford and the driller will be
put to work to find artesian
water in this city. The driller
who has been employed'is one of
the most successful and best ex-
perienced drillers in the state,
and has just completed a well at
Ranger, Texas, in which he se-
cured a flow of 300,000 gallons of
water.
The Swensons believe firmly
that they will be able to find ar-
tesian water on their vast Spur
properties and are equally cer-
tain that water will be found in
Stamford. Their work will be
watched with a great deal of in-
terest throughout West Texas,
for if they can demonstrate that
there is a basin of water that can
be reached, many other wells
will be drilled.
The machinery has been
shipped and will be put in operar
tion as soon as it arrives.

RAILROADS
Machine Used Near Stamford
Lays Ties and Rails
in Short Time
A machine to build railroads
has been unloaded at Stamford
and will be put to work on the
Stamford & Northwestern. Not
merely does it do away with the
old time tie and steel gangs but
also exceeds their speed by about
three miles per day.
In fact this machine will lay all
the ties and put down all the
rails between Stamford and
Dickens a distance of seventy-five
miles, in twenty days.
The invention has a possible
speed of four miles per day, put-
ting down both ties and rails as
it proceeds. But this maximum
speed will not be attained on the
new line the rate to be limited to
about one mile per day.
This is because of the cutting
down of grades, fills and con-
struction of bridges and culverts.

J. H. Pool, of the Pool Furni-
ture Co. is establishing a furni-
ture store in the little city of
Aspermont, and has named Jack
Stephenson, lately with Frank
C. Bennett, as manager of the
new establishment. We wish
both Messrs. Pool and Stephen-
son much success in their new
location.—Hamlin Herald.
In speaking of Aspermont the
Herald always says "little city"
to all of which we plead guilty,
but in less than twelve months
time Aspermont will make such
cities as Hamlin and Rule sit up
and take notice. The business
men of these two towns are al-
ready "catching on." We wel-
come the Pool Furniture Com-
pany to our town and all other
business men of their kind.

Whereas, on February 20th.

years a member of the Asper-

hers was a familiar face almost
every Sunday; and,
Whereas, by her good behavior
and her bright, sunny disposi

she won our love and esteem;
