Several Contracts For Stone
or Brick to be Let in The
Neár Future.
Now that the good work of
putting in substantial buildings
has started it seems to be catch-
ing.
At a meeting of the directors
of the First National Bank this
v/eek it was decided - to ercct a
bank building of either stone or
brick to cost anywhere from $10,
000 to $12,000. And in addition to
this Messrs. Brady and Cpuch
Will erect a rock or brick on the
lot now occupied by the Asper-
mont Pharmacy. S. B. Pierson
contemplates erecting two sub-
stantial building's of rock or brick
on the west side. And still this
isn't all, as we understand the
contract has already been let for
a «tice stone building near the
Masonic hall, by outside parties.
£iow, we are going to venture the
assertion that in twelve months
time the whole west side will be
lined with rock or brick build-
ings.
j Opera House for Aspermont.
1 Messrs. A. "V. McCarty and M.
H. Wynn are planning for an
opera house building 50x80 to be
erected in the near future. Let
the good work proceed. When
our railroad gets here there will
be theatrical troupes and shows
of various kinds billing the town
and we need a building to acco-
modate them.

Dr. P. H. Pirtle Dead.
After an illness lasting for
more than two weeks, Dr. P. H.
Pirtle died at his home in the
eastern part of town Saturday
afternoon at 4 o'clock. Funeral
services were conducted at the
Presbyterian church at 3 p. m.
Sunday by Rev. A. C. Bell, after
which the remains were laid away
in Aspermont cemetery.
Dr. Pirtle was a new comer to
this country, having located here
during last summer, but during
the time he resided here he made
many friends and an Unviable
reputation as a practitioner.
He leaves a wife and three
small children to mourn his
death, and to them we extend
our heartfelt sympathy in their
dark and trying hour.

Track Laying Crew on Stam-
ford and Northwestern
Doing Fast Work.
O
THE ASPERMONT PHARMACY,
S. W. Thomas, Proprietor,
SUCCESSOR TO "LITTLE JOE" THE DRUGGIST.
Parties over from Sagerton
and Stamford report the laying '
of track on the Stamford and
Northwestern being within a few
miles of Sagerton and that the
crew will reach the latter place
this week. The work is progress-
ing nicely and at the rate it is '
now being laid they will reach
Aspermont by June 1st. at the
latest. We expect to hear the
whistle of the iron horse in our
little city in less than sixty days
from this date. Additional teama
and men are being added to the-
grading crews at Aspermont and
the gap here is fast being cksed
up. Another week will doubtless
see it finished and ready for the-
steel.
Accidental Death,
On last Tuesday mornin^^ ^ ^
Parr, who lives with his family
one mile ^>uth of town, got up
about three o'clock to shoot some
wolves that were after his poul-
try and when he returned to his
room the gun was discharged,
taking effect in the back of Mrs.
Parr, who it seems had gotten
out of bed and* was standing in
the room. The charge entered
under the left shoulder, passing
through her heart killing her
instantly. The children were a-
roused by the report of the gun
and the neighbors and a doctor
were called. Mr. Parr says it was
an accident and seems to be over-
come with grief. Such tragedies
are becoming to be terribly fre-
quent. The papers give accounts
daily of accidental killings.
Is there no way by which peo-
ple can be trained to keep a gun
pointed away from hp man be-
ings?—Haskell Free Press.
