I am a Correctional Officer cur-
rently assigned to the Skyview/
Hodge Unit in Rusk, Texas. I am
on an important campaign and I
need help from each and every
Correctional Officer throughout
Texas. This is a political year and
we are in desperate need of a pay
adjustment to increase our salary
to at least the middle level of the
national pay. Here is where each
one of you can help me.
If you were told that by voting
March 14 and November 7 there
would be a great chance that you
would receive a substantial raise
would you vote? I believe you
would. In fact, I believe you would
be willing to stand in line at the
polls for hours to cast your vote.
Well, I can assure you that if you
don't vote on these dates, you and
I will not stand a chance on any
type of pay increase except what
the politicians want us to have.
Isn't that all that we have received
in the past? Haven't we accepted
the small amounts and continued
being professionals in our posi-
tions and provided the most effi-
cient service to the public that can
be given? Yes, we have.
You see, we cannot blame any
politician for what we have not
received. We can only blame our-
selves because correctional offic-
ers have not voted in the past.
Complaining to each other won't
put more money in our pockets. By
voting, we will be heard by the
entire nation and we can expect to
sepa plan that will bring us to the
national level. Maybe changes
won't be made overnight, but we
will no longer be IGNORED about
what we deserve and it certainly
won't be said that Correctional
Officers don't vote.
Can I count on each one of you to
help me? The only endorsement
I'm making for this political year
is for Correctional Officers across
the state of Texas to just vote. I can
promise you one thing about the
importance of you and I voting
that we both can bank on, if we
don't get results by 2002 rest as-
sured that we can put gray shirts
in office. By doing so we will re-
ceive everything we need, want
and deserve for the job that we put
our lives on the line for each day.
I want to thank you in advance
for being professional, patient and
positive. Your vote will make my
mission complete for this political

palestine's more than a new name,
it's a new wav of healthcare.
WHAT'S IN A NAMI?
Just ask Cheryl "Skeet" Todd, Director of Surgical Services at Palestine Regional Medical Centqr, "It's great our
hospital now has one name and one identity," explained Cheryl. "Just as my patients know me as Skeet^our
hospital name means what it says. We're a regional hospital providing caie foi a five county area."
But providing a higher quality of care requires a high tech facility. Surgical Seivices is one department benefiting
from the many new changes at Palestine Regional. Their expansion includes plans for three more operating rooms
with the potential for an additional two OR suites in the future as well as remodeling the existing OR space, the Gl
lab, and a new outpatient receiving and discharge area.
With renovation comes enhanced technology. "The surgical procedures we offer compete with any other facility in
the area,' said Cheryl. 'We are creating a hospital that is contemporary, competitive, and technologically advanced.
A name that will be synonymous with quality care, and a staff that is more than a team-we'ie a family."
