•election on the program was a
one for the occasion, and
the execution of the program
«was superb, doing honor not
only to the popular and highly
efficient teacher, but to the pu-
pils themselves alio. It is
simply stating a well admitted
truth, to say that this was ons
of the very finest entertainments
of the kind ever given in Cald-
well. It was evident to the
stranger as welles to people
here, that there is very much
fine talent among the young
people who were on the stsge
that evening. When the cur-
tain went down at the conclus-
of the program, the class very
appropriately presented to Miss
Hundley a beautiful fur set ae a
token of their ee eem for her aud
for her efficiency as a music
teacher.

Facc Badly Powder-burned.
One morning the first of last
week while Byron, the little son
of W. W. Rankin, was playing
with other boys of his size in the
back yard, he emptied the
powder out of a 12 gage shot
gun cartridge. He poured the
powder in a tin pill box and
struck a lighted matoh to it,
to see it flash. When the flash
came it went right in his face
and eyes, badly burning
them, especially the left eye.
Physicians were oalled in . at
once and dressed the burns and
the little fellow is getting along
nicely. For the first few days
both eyes were swelled tight shut,
but he is now able to open them
and there is no danger of his
loosing the sight of either eye,
The burns are getting well
nicely and will leave scarcely a
scar.
Last Friday thelie was given
by the young people a ball in the
building now known as the Slay.
den-Kirksey building. Music
was furnished hy the Caldwell
orchestra and all present experi-
enced a general good time,

The Christmas Trees.
Saturday night before Christ*
mss there were Christmas trees
at the Methodist, Baptist and
i
Presbyterian churches, given for
the happiness of the Sunday
School and other children who
attended them. There was a
large attsndanoe at all three of
them and, so far as is known,,
there was not a child at either
of them who did not get a
present. At the Methodist
church a collection was taken up
for the orphanage at Waco and
the sum of $40 was raised. The
amount was forwarded last week
to the orphans at Waco, as a
Christmas present. At the Bap-
tist church there was no collect-
ion taken that night, as the
members had been taking up a
collection for several days for
the Buckner Orphan's Home.
The first of last week the total
amount, $225., was sent to the
Orphanage as a Christmas
present.
