Intelligent Action Necessary,
Doting the week sinoe oor last
edition we have heard many re-
mark! and a number of compli-
ments on the suggestions made
therein in regard to putting on the
market from (hie oity and section
a heavy epring crop of some kind
that would bring ossh into the
oountry the same in spring as cot-
ton does in the fall.
Of oourse, no one questions the
statement that it would materially
benefit the whole county and that
the orop or crops oould easily be
grown hgre. The only difficulty
is to get people here who would
feel safe in engaging in the raising
of a orop new to this section. To
do this intelligent and concerted
action is necessary on the part of
our citisens and business men.
The people we want are not going
to sell tbeir farms and stock and
come here without any eolioitation
nor inducement of any kind being
offered them.
The proper way to accomplish
tbis purpose seems to us to be to
cell a mass meeting of our repre-
sentative bueinesa men and per-
fect the organization ot an imm i-
gration association. This associa-
tion should then employ an able
and competent immigration agent
to go to the middle, northern and
we:tern states, such as Iowa, Mis-
Kouri, Karens, Indiana, Illinois,
etc., and find men with means
wfco will consider the idea of com-
ing to Texus where ho has nine
monthB good crop weather instead
of rine months winter. If the
agent can get men wüo w ill con-
sider the idea at all, they will
come. They very rarely fall.
As a special inducement for
them to come, we feel tafo in say-
ing the Santa Pe railway will give
a one-fare for the r und trip rate
from any point oa it* line north
o** th. south li< eof Kansas, fjr the
purpose of enabling pa'ties to
c 'i > ami tee thn country and re-
main or go I-we* at a nominal ex-
pen^ . Everyone knows fall well

The Boeton Herald eaye:
4'Those are glorious tidings from
Texas, where they haTS just be-
gun reaping the greateet grain crop
in the hietory of that great state.
Here is another substantial indi-
cation of coming prosperity."
The Tucson, Arizons, Citisen
says: "A curious freak of nature
has developed in the oity. A
Mexican woman has become the
mother of four ohildren. One is
almost pure white; one is a full
developed Indian; another a moon-
eyed Chinese and the other a ne-
gro of the darkest type. If any
oity in the territory or the world
for that matter oan show a more

ohange their votea. The adoption
of the single gold standard in
Japan, Peru and elsewhere is an
eye-opener to many who have
been groping in the darkneas
The attentive observer oan not fail
to see that the Gold Trust is now
ruling the world to the infinite
detriment of universal prosperity.
Retributive juatioe may be de-
layed, but its coming is certain!"
The Way to Make Money.
It is a peculiar idea that some
people have that they must first
take the Atlanta Constitution, the
Galveston News, the Cnicago Hay-
seed and the New York Tri-weekly
World, and then last, if they feel
that they can afford an) thing more
they take their home paper.
However, as a general rule these
same people take pretty good pains
to get hold of and read their home
paper regularly and expect perso-
nal notioes whenever they get sick,
or well or buy a new buggy.
Take a dollar bill and fold it
several times eaoh way; then un-
fold it and you will find it in
oreases. Keep tbe inorease but
send the original bill to the printer
who put you on to the scheme.
Take a silver dollar and drop it on
the counter; you will at onoe
notioe the ring it makes. Send
the ring to your best girl, and the
dollar to the printer, and they'll
both be happy.—Ex.

ADVERTISED LETTERS.
The Wen the r mid Crops.
The News Chbonicle in its rush
aid whiz of going to press lat
week made several ugly looking
errors, But the most unpardon-
able one and one for which the
proof reader has lost his situation,
was the serious statement that a
mwrriage license had been granted
to "Tom Gobi Goodaon and Mi s
Nennie Gildart." The composi-
tor may possibly have been bettir
acquainted with the gentleman's
name than we are, but we have
not yet been reliably informed
that his name includes the r. th< r
unusual name of "Com," and we
aiost heartily ask Mr. Goodeon'e.
pardon for the blunder.

Since the terrible hailstorms of
some two weeks ago, the weather
all over this section of the state
has been wonderfully conducive to
the splendid growth of all crops,
and from a careful and detailed in-
quiry we have learned that every-
thing is in most excellent condi-
tion, except in some isolated cases.
Corn and cotton are unfortunate-
ly about the only important crops
we have and nothing could possi-
bly be in more flourishing condi-
tion than both of these crops all
over the caunty. Of course there
are unfortunate parties who Buf-
fered from the hail storms, but
those that replanted immediately
now have a stcoud crop in good
condition and will undoubtedly
make a good heavy crop.
We understand soiuh consider-
able interest ta bein^ taken in the
suggestion made by the News-
Chronicle in ar editorial lsst

tained that all this needless f¡x
