Nick William*, colored, died
from damp air in a well Tues-
day morning, at A. Pollock's
place near Cookes Point.
The well was a small one,
being about two feet in diameter
and 2') feet deep. The negro
went down to clean it out, sit-
ting astride a stick on one rope,
and holding another to assist
Mr. Pollock in pulling him out.
When he reached the bottom be
called to Mr. Pollock to pull
him out, and he commenced
drawing him up as rapidly as
possible, but soon felt the rope
slack, and looking down found
that the negro was off the stick,
and bracing himself against the
curbing. He called to him to
catch hold of the rope quick and
he would pull him out, but be
