Smashing Precedent
"My girl's father used to sit
in the kitchen of evenings. But
when President Wilson called on
the Senate, it stirred the old
man up so that he, too, has
smashed precedents."
"So?"
"Yes; now he comes in and
sits with us occasionally."—

THE LADIES
ARE AFTER YOU
The ladies of Crockett are go-
ing tc organize a Civic Club in
this town at an early date. They
are going to get busy and have
our good little city beautified and
put in a cleanly and sanitary
condition, so look out for them.
To save yourself of any embar-
rassment, it will be to your in-
ters t to get busy and try to
haw your place of business or
premises as clean as possible
when they call around as a com-
mittee to see you. Should they
find unsanitary places they will
give you notice to have same put
in a sanitary condition at once.
Should you fail to obey their
orders, then they will proceed to
see that they are obeyed by
using stronger force. So now
let's all get busy and try to look
as nice as we can when the
ladies call. Everybody speaks
well of a clean town, and every-
body says bad things against a
filthy town.
Let's all try and surprise our
lady friends by having every-
thing in a sanitary condition
when the Ladies Committee call
around. How much better they
will feel and how much better
we will feel if this is done.,
The ladies are our friends,
and want to see a clean town,
and it is the duty of each and
every citizen to try and help
them in this good work.
Pleasant Scenes of Summer
As the summer days lengthen
the duties of the day become
more exacting, hence our bodies
will necessarily need more sleep.
The nights are then shorter and
it requires diligence to secure
enough sleep to repair the waste
of the body and prepare one for
the labor of the following day.
The greatest care should be
given to rest and recreation in
order that the trying days of
summer may become a pleasure
instead of being a burden. It is
not good business judgment to
work more than the body can
tand, nor attempt more work
than is consistent with health
and well-being.
There are many things to
cheer us in summer. The fields
are green, the garden fragrant
and the orchards mellow with
fruits. The clear, rippling rills,
the cool and inviting forest and
the lazy livestock as they graze
in the vesdant meadow are but a
few of the charming scenes
around the farm home. Who
does not like this season and
who is not willing to take the
proper care of his health so that
the season may be enjoyad ?—
Farm and Ranch.
His Nationality
Two old-cronies had been sit-
ting in a cafe on Cortland street
one Saturday afternoon for sev-
eral hours, and were pretty
much the worse for their
lengthy tete-a-tete.
"What is your nationality any-
way, Jim?" asked one.
"Well, I'll tell you, Bob. My
father came from Glasgow, so
I'm half Scotch "
"And the other half seltzer. I
guess," put in his companion.—

Where There Is So
Much Beauty
it is difficult to make a
choice. We realize that fact
and do not hurry you at all
when you come to look at
our rugs. Take your time
in selecting the one that is
to be a part of your house-
hold for years to come. For
our rugs are the long wear-
ing as well as the beautiful
kind.

A Haunted House
A certain haunted house down
in Georgia was held in terror by
all the negroes in the vicinity ex-
cept Sam, who bravely declared
that for ,$2 he would sleep there
all night. A purse was raised
and Sam was told to carry out
his end of the bargain and call in
the morning for his money.
When morning came no trace of
Sam could be found; the house
contained nothing but evidences
of a hurried departure. A
search party was organized, but
without result. Finally, four
days later, Sam, covered with
mud, came slowly walking down
the road.
"Hi, dere nigger!" yelled a
bystander. "Whah's you been
de las' fo' days?"
To which Sam curtly respond-
ed : "Ah's been comin' back."

Long Trousers
First Tramp.' Strange how
few of our youthful dreams
come true.
Second Tramp. Oh, I don't
know. I remember how I once
yearned to wear long trousers.
Now I guess I wear them longer
than almost anybody in the
country.—Puck.
