secretary. After some comment,
Dr. Arthur Sholars moved that
th.e bid of John J. Óall be ac-
cepted; this motion was second-
ed and carried. The bid read
that shells Were to be put on the
street at $1.24 per yard. A
bond was then required of Mr
Bail of. $500 to insure the fulfill

Mayor Link here made a few
remarks emphasizing the neces-
sity of speedy action and com-
pleting the work on Front street
as rapidly as possible. City
Engineer, H. L. Montando A was
then instructed to make
grade line and figure the exca-
vation and curbing along Front
street at once. Mr, Montandon
replied that work would be
commenced to-morrow, or Thurs-
day at tlie latest. The mayor
then invested the City Éngineer
with Ml power to complete the
work and employ the best labor,
necessary and we may. rest as-
sured that Mr. Montándonos,
reputation for thoroughness Willi
be beautifully demonstrated1 In
this instance.

several Commercial schools have
been dismissed and the premises
are being utilized as barracks
for troops.
All factories and mines at
Morlanwelz, N alaré and Mabille
have ^een closed.

last night at Namuri.
A mob stoned the police who
charged with drawn swords.
Subsequently a force of gen-
darmes scattered the rioters,.
The strike is stéadily extend-
ing in both this city and suburbs
and especially at Molenbeck
where a number of large facto-
ries have stopped work.
The military and police have
adopted more stringent measures
to preserve order.
