The railroad 6ompany are putting in
a turn table. Round house next.
Dr. Field, of Mobeetie, Texas, was
in the city yesterday.
Collier Williams, of Higgins. Texas,
made Canadian a flying trip Tuesday.
Mr. Williams says she is a daisy.
We had the pleasure of calling on
Brother Edwards, of the Texas Pan-
handle. at Mobeetie. on Saturday last.
W m. Wilson, the tousorial artist, is
erecting a large bath house. It will be
a first-class institution and one badly
needed here.
Miss Lillie Ramey, one of our city's
charming society leaders, is visiting
friends at Kiowa. She expects to re-
turn in a few days.
Messrs. 15. W. Keys, of York-Draper
Mercantile Company, and J. T. Law-
rence. hardware, both of Kiowa, are
in the city. They were highly pleased
with the outlook.
We wish to thank V. S. Marshal
Decker, of Mobeetie, Texas, for court-
esies shown a member of our firm
while in that city last week. We as-
sure the Marshal of a good time should
lie visit Canadian.
Ilis Honor Judge Polly favored us
by dropping in on Monday last for a
social <hat. He is an old resident
here and is one of the most popular
men in this county. We were highly
entertained and hope Mr. Polly will
call again.
A man who had the tremens was
captured yesterday by Deputy Sheriff
Aiken—he was laboring under the de-
lusion that Jie was going to be lynched
for stealing mules in Missouri. He
was placed in a cattle car until he re-
covered his senses.
15. E. and T. A. Wiggins, of Hazel-
ton. Kans., are in the city, and will
commence to-morrow the building of a
large store 20 by 70 feet on the lot adjoin-
ing this office, for B. K. Herri ngton &
Co.. of Ilazelton. of whom mention
was made in last week's issue.
Misses Lizzie and Katie Monahan,
of Camp Supply. I. T.. were in the city
to-day. They depart this evening to
visit Mrs. Hayes and Miss Minnie Ed-
wards. at Springer's Ranch. Both are
handsome and accomplished young
ladies, and are the belles of Fort Sup-
ply.
Mr. Robert Moody, of the P. O. Cat-
tle Company, departed for Olathe. Ks.,
yesterday. Mr. Moody is one of the
projectors of the bank soon to be or-
ganized here, and is thoroughly identi-
fied with Canadian. He intends to
build a large store on the lot adjoining
this office. Before departing he called
and subscribed. Many thanks.
Judge E. E. Polly leaves this even-
ing for his ranch, eight miles up the
river. He will return in a day or two.
John Tod, manager of the Texas
Land and Cattle Company, was in the
city this week for several days.
Burt Dowden, of the Bungalow, is
in the city superintending the building
of their hotel.
The Hansford Land and Cattle Com-
pany shipped 13,000 head of cattle this
week. They were in charge of C. B.
Willingham.
Mr. Henry Hamburg, one of Cana-
dian's banking firm, is in the city su-
perintending the building of one of his
new stores on Main street.
Hon. Temple Houston, Senator from
this district, was in the city this week,
lie is a son of the Father of Texas,
General Sam Houston.
Mr. Fleming, of Mobeetie. is in the
town, and is thinking of permanently
locating here. Mr. Fleming is well
pleased with our booming city.
J. T. Lawrence, the popular hard-
ware and agricultural implement dealer
of Kiowa, sold McGee & Stickley near-
ly $1,000 worth of buggies and harness
to-day. This speaks well for Canadian.
Farmers, ranchmen and freighters
come to Canadian to buy your goods.
Merchants now ship their goods direct
into Canadian? and consequently sell
goods cheaper than any town in the
Panhandle. The day of high prices
and high freights is a thing of the past.
Groceries can be bought here, as can
also all the necessaries of life, from 2-5
to 50 per cent, cheaper than at Mobee-
tie. Farmers do not pay outrageous
prices any longer, but make Canadian
your trading point and you will grow
wealthy.
The Postmastership.
The postmaster for Canadian, if
there is one. has not showed up yet in
Canadian. We are informed that the
bond is waiting for approval at the de-
partment before a commission is given.
This statement is made in justice to
the gentleman who has made the ap-
plication—to set aside the various
stories set afloat that a commission
was received by him.
Even if the case isas we have stated,
it does not prevent the person from
showing up in this city, and not stay
away, as he is doing. This man is in
business at Mobeetie, a place that has
nothing to do with this city—he has
never identified himself with the place
where he expects to make his liveli-
hood—not even as much as to make a
statement of affairs.
An intimate friend of his informed
us that "he did not care very much
whether he had the office or not—that
he was not 'stuck' on having it—and if
the people did not want him over here
he would not come."'
We wish to say publicly that the
people of Canadian are not very much
' stuck" on him, and if he intends to
come here they want to know it—if he
does not care much about it say so.
This man ran for the County Trea-
surcship last election in this county
and was knocked out, and in our opin-
ion does not feel very much in l/>ve
with this county. With as many men
as there are in ('anadian, business men
and others, we do not think or believe
it necessary to go out of our county for
a postmaster, and think a Canadian
man should be appointed instead of a
man living in another county and doing
business in the same.
