GREAT OVATION TENDERED JUDGE KING AT NACOGDOCHES
Fridny night, June 21st., will long* be remembered by the people of Nacogdoches when more than 2,000 people assembled to
hear Steve M. King, the "Favorite Son" oí Nacogdoches County, speak in the interest of his race for Congress. The audience
was composed of representative men and women from all walks of life. Garrison, the boyhood home of Judge King, was es-
pecially well represented, driving to thei;- county seat in twenty-five cars with streamers bearing the inscription: "Garrison is
for Steve King."
Judge King was introduced by his former law partner, Arthur A. Seale, and for nearly two hours Mr. King held the aud-
ience while he discussed his candidacy dealing with national questions and reviewing his record in both branches of the Texas
Legislature.
He advocated measures of vital importance to the farming industry, by opposing the fixing of the price of cotton by Con-
gress at a minimum price of 20 cents per pound, stating that cotton cannot at this time be produced at a profit to the farmer at
20 cents per pound, and also advocating an amendment to the Farm Loan Act so as to permit a man to own a home by paying
down 25 percent of the purchase price of a farm and borrowing the remaining 75 per cent from the Government at a low rate
of interest and for a long term.
In his closing remarks, Judge King admonished his hearers not to fórgetthe boys who are crossing the ocean to uphold the
principles of Christian Civilization. He related his experience as a soldier across the ocean during the Phillipine war, and des-
cribed how lonely a boy feels so far away from home and prayed for the safe return of America's soldiers to their homes and
mothers, to again enter the pursuits of peace and happiness.
Following the address the friends and supporters of their native son handed him a resolution endorsing his candidacy and
commending him to the voters of the Second Congressional District said endorsement being signed by following voters and
many others, of Nacogdoches County.
