Alfred C. Glassell, Jr. (1914-) has been a distinguished leader in the petroleum industry and marine biology as well as renowned art patron, collector and philanthropist. Also an avid sportsman, he holds the world record title for catching a 1,560 pound marlin on a hand-held rod and reel. He is a Life Trustee of both the Texas Childrens Hospital and the Museum of Fine Arts Houston (MFAH), where he founded the Alfred C. Glassell, Jr. School of Art and holds the title of Chairman emeritus. He established world class collections of African and Pre-Columbian gold, which he donated to the MFAH. He is also a generous supporter of his alma mater, Louisiana State University. |
