Obituaries from The Southwestern Advocate 1939
Mrs. Sarah Maranda Stokley was born in Pickens County, Alabama, on December 14, 1853.
Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. Griffin Bruner. On March 5, 1883, she married J. B. Stokley.
They had one son, Rev. Samuel W. Stokley and raised eight orphaned children from infancy.
Funeral services were held in Grace Methodist Church in Houston, Texas, officiated by her
pastor, Rev. Stewart Clendenin.
Thomas Pickett Mulkey was born on January 18, 1866, in Waxahachie, Texas, to Stephen H.
and Elizabeth Mulkey. He died on December 12, 1938, at his home in Fort Worth, Texas. He
was married to Miss Nannie McDaniel who preceded him in death in 1906. Mr. Mulkey married
Miss Lattie Brunson in 1911. He is survived by his widow and surviving daughter, Miss Ruth;
three brothers, Gill Mulkey of Quanah, Texas; John Mulkey of Chillicothe, Texas, and Frank
Mulkey of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Services were held at Mulkey Memorial Methodist Church by
the pastor.
Lorenzo Perry Cozzens was born in Lorain County, Ohio, on March 14, 1855, and died on
October 28, 1938, in Abilene, Texas. He was married to Miss Carrie Seymour December 25,
1877. After her death he raised his children alone, until he married Mrs. Delia Willis.
He is survived by his wife, five children, and four step-children.
Rev. Robert Sidney Adair was born in Gwinnett County, Georgia, on August 25, 1860. He was
born to R.S. and Eliza Ann Adair. Rev. Adair died in Boerne, Texas, on November 2, 1938. In
1900, he married Miss Annie Perrin. He is survived by his wife, three sons, and a daughter.
Mrs. T. S. Armstrong, 68, died on December 25, 1938, in Dallas, Texas. Services were held at
First Methodist Church and burial in Corsicana, Texas. She is survived by her son, J.E.
Armstrong and one daughter, Mrs. W.G. McCulloch of Dallas. She is also survived by her
brother, E.L. of Hebronville, three sisters, Mrs. Geo. T Whytte of Corsicana, Mrs. E. G. Hart of
Brookeland, and Mrs. E. A. Thomas of Houston, and two grandchildren.

Mr. W. W. Fondren, Sr. of Houston, Texas, died suddenly in his hotel suite in San Antonio,
Tuesday, January 3, 1939. He was married in 1903 to Miss Ella Cochrum of Corsicana. In
addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Walter W. Fondren, Jr. and two daughters, Mrs.
W.B. Trammel and Mrs. Milton R. Underwood all of Houston.
Rev. T. F. Sessions died in January, 1939, in San Antonio, Texas. Services were held at Travis
Park Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ella Sessions; a son Royal Fred
Sessions of Kenwood, California; a daughter, Mrs. Ina Beth Sessions McGavock of Berkley,
California; two brothers, R.E. and Wm. Sessions of Birmingham, Alabama, and three sisters,
Mrs. Charles Perry of Birmingham; Mrs. Beckie Lucas of Montevalla, Alabama; and Mrs. Tinnie
Gentry of Lewisville, Texas.
