Obituaries from The Southwestern Advocate 1939
February 20, 1939. He is preceded in death by his wife and one son. Survivors include 5
daughters, Mrs. Lena Stringer, Mrs. Mollie Chandler and Mrs. Ethel Shinn of Ben Wheeler, Mrs.
C.W. Simpson of Canton, Mrs. J. D. Stringer of Tyler, and son R. S. West of Belleview, New
Mexico; two brothers, S. J. West of Canton, S.W. West of Ben Wheeler; two sisters, Mrs. A. L.
Stevens and Mrs. J. E. Howell of Ben Wheeler.
Mrs. S.D. Beavers, nee Miss Willie Ann Meek, was born September 13, 1869, and died March
2, 1939, in Silverton. She is preceded in death by her husband of 33 years. He died on October 6,
1928. They were married on December 23, 1895. Funeral services were held at the Silverton
Methodist Church. Three of their children, Dewey Beavers and Mrs. Floyd Wood of Silverton
and Mrs. John McCleod of Tulia and their families survive.

Rev. John Wesley Frisbie died at his home near Ketchum, Oklahoma on March 14, 1939. He
had been a local preacher for more than 40 years.
Mr. D. A. Dobkins died on February 6, 1939 in Welch, Oklahoma. He was a leading citizen of
Welch.
Mr. R. E. Holt died on March 17, 1939, in Stuttgart, Arkansas. He was the brother of Bishop
Ivan Lee Holt of the North Texas Conference.
Mrs. Fred Flemming died in March 1939. She attended St. Paul's Church in Muskogee,
Oklahoma.
Mrs. Annie Nugent Gibbs was born in Greenville, Mississippi and died at her home in
Huntsville in March, 1939. She was the daughter of Col. Wm Lewis and Aimee Webb Nugent.
She is survived by a son, Wilbourn S. Gibbs, Jr. and a granddaughter, Margaret.

Rev. J. M. Fuller, pastor at Bullard, died on March 23, 1939.
Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Edwards died on March 28, 1939, in Hazelhurst, Mississippi. She was
the daughter of James and Annie Ainsworth, Hazelhurst pioneers. She is survived by her
husband, Judge J. M. Edwards, son, Rev J.M. Fuller, eight other children, twenty grandchildren,
and seven great-grandchildren.

Judge Nelson Avery Rector was born in Hays County, Texas, near Prairie Lee, on May 31,
1853. He died in San Antonio, Texas, on February 12, 1939. HE is survived by his wife and one
daughter.I
