Attacked in St. Vincent.
New York, April 29.—The Journal say that a sailor on the moni-
tor Puritan has been convicted of treason by a drum-head court mar-
tial and will be shot. He is a Spaniard and was caught filing tilt
lock off of the magazine.
New York, April 29.—Government detectives here are watching
the Spanish residents. Some of them are suspected of being spies.
Key West, April 29.—It is reported here that the Spanish sol-
diers in Cuba are burning Cuban cities and are killing'all the Cubans
they can catch.
Key West, April 29 (1:30 p. m )—The monitor Terror and gun-
boat Maehias, bombarded Cardenas this morning, and many Span-
iard* were killed ! he batteries on shore were silenced in two
hours. The American ships were not injured.
Lisbon, Aprrl 2 —The Official Gazette will publish tomorrow
a decree declaring the neutrality of Portugal in the conflict between
Spain and the United States.
Toronto, Out., April 29.—Senor Polo received several long ci-
pher cables from Madrid last night. The only information, how-
ever, which could be obtained was that as a result of one of the
cables the minister might at any moment have to start for London.
Lisbon, April 29.—The Portugal secretary of foreign affairs
says that a declaration of neutrality, like that issued during the
France-Prussian war will be made today. This means that' the
Spanish fleet now at ("ape Verde, must leave at once or remain in-
active till the war is over.

London, April 29.—Today's reports from St. Vincent say that
thcSpairsh fleet sailed today. Destination unknown.
Cape 'Verde, April 29.—The Spanish Admiral here has sealed
orders to sail. The orders are not to be opened until the fleet has
been 12 hours at sea.
Santiago, Spain, April 29.—A Spanish mob attacked the Ameri-
can consulate in charge of the Britisn consul here last night.
Key West. April 29.—The Newport arrived in,"the harbor with a
small Spanish prize this morning. >
Washington. April 29.—The war department has asked for an
appropriation of $34,000,000 for the support of the army for the re-
mainder of the fiscal year, ending June 30.
A message from Dallas today stated that the Southern Pacific
railroad had unearthed a scheme of the Spaniards in Mexico to in-
vade and mal^e a raid on the Texas border. Great excitement pre-
vails and some credence is given the report.
