HOUSE AND SENATEV.
Mr. Head offered the following re-
solution:
H. C. R. No. 1, Inviting Gov. James
V. Allred to address a joint session
of the House and Senate.
Whereas, It is customary for the
Governor of Texas to deliver a mes-
sage to the Legislature at each Called
Session; and
Whereas, The Members of the First
Called Session of the Forty-fourth
Legislature are very desirous of hear-
ing the Governor deliver his message
in person; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, by the House of Rep-
resentatives, the Senate concurring,
That a Joint Session of the Senate and
the House of Representatives of the
First Called Session of the Forty-
fourth Legislature be held in the Hall
of the House, at 12:30 o'clock p. m.,
Monday, September 16, 1935, and that
His Excellency, the Honorable James
V. Allred, Governor of Texas, be in-
vited to deliver his message at such
Joint Session; and, be it further
Resolved, That a committee of ten
members be appointed, five mem-
bers from the Senate and five from
the House of Representatives, to es-
cort the Governor to the Hall of the
House.
The resolution was read second time,
and was adopted.
In accordance with the above ac-
tion the Speaker announced the ap-
pointment of the following commit-
tee on the part of the House: Messrs.
Head, Russell, Hodges, Gibson and
Calvert.OATH OF OFFICE ADMINISTERED
TO HON. HORACE B. SESSIONS
Speaker Stevenson stated that Hon.
Horace B. Sessions, Representative-
elect from the 92nd District to suc-
ceed Hon. H. O. Jones of Runnells
County, was present, presenting his
commission of election, and stated that
there had been filed with him notice
of intention to contest the election of
the Hon. Horace B. Sessions, and asked
the pleasure of the House in regard to
the matter.
Mr. Spears moved that Mr. Sessions
be seated at this time, that the con-
stitutional oath of office be adminis-
tered to him, and that the question
of the contest be referred to the Com-
mittee on Privileges, Suffrage, and
Elections with instruction to report
their findings to the House.
The motion of Mr. Spears prevailed.
Mr. Sessions came forward and
took the constitutional oath of office
which was administered by the Hon.
Coke R. Stevenson, Speaker.
Mr. Sessions then addressed the
House briefly.
GOVERNOR NOTIFIED
The committee appointed to notify
the Governor, that the House is now
organized and ready for the transac-
tion of business, appeared at the bar
of the House and, being duly an-
nounced, stated that they had perform-
ed the duty assigned them.
MESSAGE FROM THE SENATE
Austin, Texas, September 16, 1935.
Hon. Coke Stevenson, Speaker of the
House of Representatives,
Sir: I am directed by the Senate to
inform the House that the Senate has
passed,
H. C. R. No. 1, Providing for a joint
session of the House and Senate to
be held in the Hall of the House
of Representatives to hear the Hon.
James V. Allred deliver his message.
