Board names non-pro personnel,
hears of need for $77,000.00
The Rio Grande City Board
of Trustees meeting in their
regular monthly session ap-
proved a $2,037,000 plus bud-
get for the district named non-
professional personnel and
were told they must seek new
funding to complete the audi-

the offer down immediately and
the board could not make up it's
mind on a third. The present
assistant however, will be giv-
en an official reprimand and
given a set of "ground rules"
which he must follow to keep
the job. "One deviation from
those ground rules and his out".
After coming out of execu-
tive session the board approved
the professional personnel list
which included Paul E. Pierce
II and his wife Carolyn M.
Pierce. Pierce will be the
backfield coach for the Rat-
tlers. Also employed were Juan
Manuel Salinas and Hose Lin-
da Lopez.
The board also named George
Gomez as first assistant to
Coach Koel Maldonado. Dr.
Ramiro Narro went on record
as opposing Gomez' promotion
because "I feel that Pierce has

The board then approved Dr.
Ramiro Narro and Dr. Mario
E. Ramirez as the team doc-
tors.
The board then approved a
$2,767,rj78 budget for the school
district.
They then approved milk bids
in which Hygeia was the low-
est bidder and half the bread
business will go to Rainbo and
half to Holzem.
The board then went into a
discussion on the auditorium
construction. The board was
told by Paul Garcia, project
director that their project had
a 38 per cent run over
what had been budgeted. This
means $77,000.00.
Trustees questioned Garcia
and Superintendent Cowan
closely on the matter. The two
are suppose to apply for an
additional grant to complete the
project. If the money has not
been obtained from EDA the
local district will have to fin-
ish the project.
The board then heard a report
on a new law which will re-
quire tuition for non-low in-
come families that have chil-
dren in the headstart program.
(A chart on charges is print-
ed elsewhere in this issue of
the Herald).
After hearing a report on high
school dress policies and sev-
eral other district policies the
board approved bills and ad-
journed.
