will to work. This is how it is climbed. 0 per cent, I won't; 10 per

could; 40 per cent, What is it?; 50 per cent, I think I might; 60 per
cent, I might; 70 per cent, I think I can; 80 per cent, I can; 90 per
cent, I will; 100 per cent, I did.
Miss Maggie Marmolejo of San Antonio was honored with a
miscellaneous shower on Saturday, November 30. Miss Marmolejo
is the bride-elect of Raymond Ibanez. Hostesses for the shower,
held at the Methodist Educational Building, were Mrs. Milo
Hurley, Mrs. Chon Lopez, and Miss Olivia Lopez.
Sgt. and Mrs. Horance B. Wilson and children from Ft. Camp-
bell, Ky. spent the Christmas holidays with Mrs. Wilson s parents,
Mr. and Mrs. O. F. Guffey. Mr. and Mrs. Jody Ray Guffey and son
Jason from Cleveland,"Ohio spent a New Year's vacation in Rio
Grande City with his parents. Mr. and Mrs. Elvis Ray Neie and
children of San Antonio spent Christmas with their parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Guffey and Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Neie.
Mr. and Mrs. Reynaldo Solis and sort Jorge have returned to their
home in Lake Jackson, Texas after an enjoyable visit in Rio
Grande City. They were in Rio Grande January 10 through 12 to
visit her mother, Mrs. Adela R. Guerrero, and his mother, Mrs.
Socorro Solis.
The public is invited to attend a free movie on Sunday evening,
January 19, at 7:00 p.m. The Billy Graham film, made especially
for youth, will be shown at the First Baptist Church in Rio Grande
City. It was filmed in Berkley, California, among the youth with
their many problems. Come and bring your family and friends.
Mr. and Mrs. Leonel J. Lopez of Rio Grande City and their
children, Yvonne, Leonel Jr. and Freddie, recently enjoyed a three
week visit from Mrs. Lopez's aunt, Mrs. Nora M. Villarreal of
Maryland. Mrs. Lopez's sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert
Gonzalez Jr. and Michael and Annette of San Antonio, also visited
in Rio Grande City. The families enjoyed holiday parties and
barbecues together. The sisters and their aunt also spent some
time in San Antonio, where they enjoyed dinner in the Hemisfair
Tower.
Richard D. Van Nest, twenty-four year old son of Mr. and Mrs.
James E. Van Nest of Rio Grande City, was promoted to Army
Staff Sergeant while serving as an operations sergeant with Troop
D, 3rd Squadron of the 8th Infantry Division's 8th Cavalry in
Finthen, Germany, where he is stationed with the U.S. Army.
David LaGrange of Rio Grande City received his B.S. degree in
Plant Science from Texas A&M University in Kingsville at the end
of the Fall semester. His wife, Nancy, and children, Randy and
Carri, are very proud of him, as are his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Boone LaGrange of Rio Grande City.
Mrs. M. F. Garcia of Rio Grande City held a merienda in her
home recently in honor of Mrs. Nora Villarreal from Maryland.
Attending the merienda were the Nix family members, including
Adriana Lopez, Minerva Salinas, Yola Saldana, Stella Zarate,
Cecilia Gutierrez, Tita Scanlan, Lillie Marie Tijerina, Virginia Lee
Heath, Gloria Lopez, Nelda Montalvo, Mrs. Garcia, and a guest,
Mrs. Nick Rispoli. The guests enjoyed talking and reminiscing and
were served chicken salad sandwiches, Pan de polvo, pumpkin
empanaditas, and coffee by the hostess.
A farewell coffee honored Mrs. Dick Horn on Thursday morning,
January 2. Women friends of Mrs. Horn who had worked with her
at the First Baptist Church of Rio Grande City attended. Holiday
cookies and coffee were served by the hostess, Mrs. A. V. Peterson.
Mr. and Mrs. Horn are moving to Victoria.
Bill and Lupita Anderson and sons Billy and Jon David enjoyed
spending the holidays in Starr county with her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Juan Gonzalez. Bill and Lupita are living in El Paso, where
Bill is a supervisor with U.S. Customs Patrol.
Los Artistas performed in Alice and Corpus through an invitation
made by Roberto Pulido and Los Clasioos. Los Artistas will soon be
performing in the Corpus and Kingsville area. They plan to do a
benefit dance in Pharr, also through the invitation of Roberto
Pulido. The benefit dance will be on January 16.

ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED - Mrs. Edwin LaGrange of Rio Grande City is proud to
announce the engagement of her daughter, Deborah Catherine, to Royce Thomas Huffman,
son of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Huffman of La Marque, Texas. The couple have planned their
wedding for April 12 at 7:30 p.m. The service will be at the Robert Carr Chapel on the Texas
Christian University campus in Fort Worth. The bride-to-be, a graduate of Rio Grande City
High School, is a Junior Nursing Major and a member of Delta Gamma Sorority at TCU.
Her fiance is a graduate of La Marque High School and TCU, where he was a three year
letterman in football and a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity.
Mothers Club BBQ Termed Success
The Catholic Mothers Quo
held a successful barbecue on
Sunday, January 12, which was
open to the public.
The Knights of Columbus,
aided by F. L. Niederjohn, were
responsible for the barbecue
meat and sauces. Helping out
were Roy Bryon, Lazaro
Rodriguez, Mario Guillen,
Manuel Guillen, Steven Guillen,
Gustavo Perez, Heberto
Barrera, Roberto Tijerina,
Eliseo Smith Jr., Grand Knight,
Aurelio Sanchez, and Catarino
Escobar.
Responsible for fixing the
potato salad were Frances
Ramirez, Felicia Garza, Lolita
Gomez, Tinita Trevino, Minnie
Guillen, Pita Solis, Mrs.
Homero Saldana, Mrs. Fideneio
Guerra, Ninfa Mendoza, Mrs.
Rafael Trevino, Minnie
Villarreal, Alicia Sanchez, and
Marta Gonzalez.
Fixing the beans were Mrs.
Inez C. Hinojosa, Mrs. Ninfa
Escobar, Mary Ann Cummings,
Virginia Guzman, and Agueda
Resendez.
Green salads were prepared
by Maria Olfelia Saenz, Maria
Elia Gonzalez, Alicia Garza,
Minnie Margo, Maria Luisa
Sanchez, and Elia Munoz. The
vegetables were donated by Los
Puertos Inc., care of Bili Birch.
Helping to serve the barbecue
plates were Lolita Gomez, Nena
Hinojosa, Maria Ofelia Saenz,
Minnie Margo, Sulema Mon-
tejano, Virginia Guzman,
Carmela Marmolejo, Alicia
Saenz, Maria Luisa Sanchez,
Rose Pena, Elia Munoz, Abbie
Vela, Chacha Weaver, Felicia
Garza, Hector Gonzalez, Noe
Ruben Sanchez, Becky San-
chez, and Pita Solis.
