What a wonderful world we're living in today! Ten years ago, the
"dropout" was cast out from society. Today, men and women who
have been unable to complete their high school educations are
"dropping back in" to receive High School Equivalency diplomas.
The High School Equivalency Program, HEP, is designed to help
seasonal and migrant farm workers, between the ages of 17 and 24,
complete their high school educations. One hundred and thirty
students are recent graduates of the HEP at Pan American
University. Graduates represented 27 cities and towns in South
Texas. Numerous awards were presented and a dozen honor
graduates were recognized. The honor graduates, those attaining
the highest scores on General Education Development exams,
included Maria Elena Hinojosa of Salineno.
People helping people - this is the idea behind the Nurse's
Auxiliary. An auxiliary is presently being formed in Starr County
to serve at the soon-to-open new hospital. Any person who has a few
hours per week or month to help with volunteer work at the
hospital, or anyone who wishes to be a patron of the auxiliary by
donating $10 towards supplies, may contact Mrs. Alex Hinojosa at
487-2462.
Back to the sea again goes Ricardo A. Garcia, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Rodrigo H. Garcia, Sr. of Rio Grande City. Seaman Garcia

two weeks. Garcia is stationed aboard the USS Puget Sound (AD-
38) homeported in Norfolk, Virginia. The ship will go out to sea into
the Mediterranean for six months. Garcia is a 1972 graduate of Rio
Grande City High School.

inches long. His proud grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Demetrio
Olivarez Sr. and Mr. and Mrs. Victoriano Olivarez.

they visited Mrs. LaGrange's father, Leonard Walker, and Mr.
LaGrange's sisters and their families, Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Green
and Mr. and Mrs. Lemens of Ohio. The Texans enjoyed the snow in
Indiana and were able to attend a basketball game at Hanover
