To Our Friends,
Rio Livestock Sales had another good run of
cattle this week with about 700 head of the best
cattle you can find anywhere this time of the
year.
Our market was about steady with last week
but the cattle are carrying a little less fat this
deep into the winter.
The demand for good heifers and young cows is
real good. We had a bunch of yearling heifers
that brought 30.25c per lb. This shows that a lot of
the local ranchers need replacements and will
pay top money for good replacement heifers.
As we announced two weeks ago, we are
planning a special stockers sale for early spring,
watch for the date to be set soon.
It is beginning to dry up but lets pray that rains
will be better this year than last year.
Remember that Rio Livestock Sales is the best
facility in South Texas to give your cattle the
care they deserve and get you the best prices
possible for your cattle.
Thank you for your patronage.

WORLD ACCLAIMED
ROCK OPERA "TOMMY"
BROUGHT TO SCREEN
"'Tommy' is the greatest work of art the twentieth century has
produced."
That remarkable statement comes from Ken Russell, the man who
has brought the widely-acclaimed rock opera by Pete Townshend
and The Who to the screen. The Robert Stigwood Presentation of
the Ken Russell film was produced by Stigwood ana Russell and
is distributed by Columbia Pictures. Russell directed from his own
screenplay.
"Tommy" is perhaps the landmark in the glittering history of in-
ternational rock music. When The Who released their mammoth
double album in 1969, it was hailed on both sides of the Atlantic as
a masterpiece. Certainly no musical creation as ambitious as
"Tommy" had ever been heard prior to its conception and realiza-
tion. The idea of a rock group taking a single, continuous theme
and following it through 1 V2 hours of recording was unheard.
MUSIC MILESTONE
Apart from its qualities as an exciting, moving and tuneful story,
"Tommy" is a milestone in advancing the idea of rock music as
another medium for expressing thought and philosophical concepts.
Now, after over a year of w riting in collaboration with "Tommy"
cieator Pete Townshend and a rigorous 18-week shooting schedule
in England, Ken Russell has committed the rock opera to film. Not
a single word is spoken throughout the film; every line of dialogue
is sung. Where there are no words, the action is backed entirely by
instrumental music and accompanied where needed by dramatic
sound effects carefully orchestrated into the score.
STARS OF FILM...
For this ambitious musical, Russell and Stigwood have assembled
a suitably mixed cast. Oscar nominee Ann-Margret combines her
superb singing and acting abilities in creating a role many will agree
is her finest portrayal to date.
Oliver Reed is no stranger to a Ken Russell set. One of the most
active stars on the international scene, Reed has worked many times
with Russell in films and television. Most recently, and perhaps most
notably, they teamed in "The Devils" and "Women In Love."
Of his singing abilities, Reed says:
"I more or less project my lines much as Rex Harrison did in 'My
Fair Lady."'
But Ann-Margret calls the baritone rendition of his role as Tom-
my's stepfather "lusty and animalistic."
Jack Nicholson was teamed with Ann-Margret before in "Carnal
Knowledge." In "Tommy," he guest stars as the Harley Street medi-
cal specialist, one of many who tries to cure the unfortunate Tommy.
Russell has never been known for restraint, and "Tommy" proves
to be no different. "Tommy" is staffed with an intriguing group of
pop music's stellar members.
...AND ROCK STARS
Elton John, who collects gold record plaques (for sales in excess
of one million records) much the way housewives collect green
stamps, makes his film debut as the Pinball Wizard. During the film-
ing of the Pinball Wizard sequence, six stagehands had to hoist John
onto a pair of three-foot-high boots.
