Several
Burglaries
Solved
Starr County Sheriff
Reymundo Alvarez said
Thursday that his department
has broken a burglary ring and
has recovered several items
taken in the break-ins.
Alvarez said those respon-
sible for the burglaries were
juveniles who have already
been referred to the County
Juvenile Officer.
Items recovered were some
taken from Rio Pharmacy,
Twin Palms Pood Store and
several private residences.
Included in those items was a
cassette tape recorder taken
from The Herald offices in
December.
Alvarez added that he is still
working on some unsolved
break-ins and that he should
have positive results in a short
time.
were migrant workers who
were on their way upstate or to
other states to begin their few
months of summer work.
Packed pick-ups and cars
were parked in front of the
courthouse while their drivers
and passengers waited to cast
their ballots.
The delay in the opening of
the absentee voting was ex-
plained by County Clerk Jose
Hinojosa. What caused us to
open late," said Hinojosa, "was
that all the ballots had to be
amended because someone,
probably the printing shop,
made a couple of mistakes on
the ballots. The phrase
unexpired term" was left out of
the box for the 229th Judicial
District Judge. The translation
in Spanish for the same phrase
was left out so, consequently,
Woman (charged

we had to print those phrases
in."
Hinojosa added that all this
had not been done before
because he had received the
ballots Sunday from Guadalupe
Villarreal, County Democratic
Chairman.
0. P. Carrillo occupied the
229th District Judge bench until
his indictment and conviction
late last year for several
illegalities. Presently vying for
that spot are District Attorney
Arnulfo Guerra of Roma and
Richard Garcia from Duval
County.
Hinojosa said that about 50
absentee ballots were cast on
the first day of absentee voting.
He reminds all who expect to be
out of town on May 1 that they
may vote absentee until
Tuesday, April 27 at the county
courthouse from 8 to 12 a.m.
and from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday
through Friday except on
national holidays. The cour-
thouse will be closed on Good
Friday, April 16.
