'Hanging Of Greens'
Is Baptist Program
"The Hanging of the
Greens" was the theme for a
Christmas program held at
the First Baptist Church in
Rio Grande City on Sunday
night, December 11.
■ A Processional of young
people singing "0 Come, All
Ye Faithfu'. joined in
singing by the congregation,
began the program,
following the prelude by
Mrs. A. V. Peterson.
The Rev. Glen Grander,
pastor, led the people in an
oral reading from the Bible,
and Elder P. Neie voiced the
Invocation.
Primary and Junior
children spelled out the
Christmas Alphabet and
sang, "We Wish You a Merry
Christmas," accompanied
on the piano by Judy Gabert.
The Rev. Granger gave
the meaning of the service of
the hanging of the greens,
and Mrs. Granger told the
meaning of the Sanctuary

Greens. After the children of
the church had decorated the
windows with greenery,
candles, and pine cones, the
congregation sang, "Deck
the Halls."
The pulpit greens were
hung by Mrs. Scott Jordan
and Mrs. James Peterson
following the explanation by
Mrs. Granger.
The Primary Sunday
School Class then sang two
Christmas numbers, ac-
companied on the second by
Lori Lynn Peterson on the
piano.
Mrs. Grangerr told the
meaning of the Choir
Greens, ana the youth of the
church decorated the choir
loft with greenery and
poinsettias. The
congregation then sang,
"Angels We Have Heard on
High-
Placing gifts of toys under
the tree by the children was
followed by the song.
"Toyland", accompanied by
Ijori Lynn Peterson
Following words ex-
plaining the Altar Greens by-
Mrs. Granger, the hanging
of the Crismons on the tree
was conducted by Mrs.
Roger Williams, chairman,
with the young people
hanging the chrismons as
each was explained.
The pastor then led a
Christmas prayer, and the
young people sang "Silent
Night" and "Go Tell It On
the Mountain."
Following the lighting of
the altar candle, a solo, "The
Ijght of the World" was sung
by Mrs. Robert Mayes.
Every person in the church
then lit a small candle from
the large one and joined in
singing "Joy to the World,"
with the ringing of the
Christmas Bells played on
the organ by Mrs. A. V.
Peterson.

We wish to express our sincere thanks and
gratitude to all our relatives, friends and neigh-
bors who accompanied and aided us during a
time of very deep sorrow at the loss of our loved
one, Juan De Dios Garza.
