THE RIO GRANDE HERALD THURSDAY. MARCH U1171 PAGE •
EDITOR'S NOTE: This is
the first of a two-part series
on savings accounts. It deals
with planning a savings
program. The second part
explains how to choose a
profitable savings
program.)
An effective savings
program depends on careful
four-step planning, says
Mrs. Linda McCormack,
family resource
management specialist with
the Texas Agricultural
Extension Service, The
Texas A&M University
System.
Planning steps include a
goal, a set amount, a
schedule and a program that
pays the maximum legal
rate of interest.
Mrs. McCormack offers
these easy steps for
developing a savings
program: (1) Examine
motives and write down a
specific goal with a possible
date for meeting it—this
year, five years, or 20 years
from now. (2) Determine
how much money is
necessary to reach the goal.
(3) Set up an actual
schedule.
In deciding on a schedule,
rework your spending plan
to determine a realistic
amount left for savings.
Then, set aside a fixed
amount each week or month
in order to achieve the goal.
Do not count on a
"flexible amount" of money
for savings each time-such
as money left over at the end
of the week or month. There
never seems to be any left
over. (4) Determine which
program pays the maximum
Chances for a satisfying
remarriage tower fairly
high, especially for men.
"Remarriage can be a
viable substitute for a
previously unsatisfying
marriage."
Recent studies and sur-
veys at the national level
show that marriage is still
legal rate of interest. This
should be major factor in
selecting a savings program,
and it will affect the
"where" and "how" of
saving.

an effective way of meeting
an individual's needs.
In the event of divorce,
remarriage is a means to
replace an unsatisfying
marriage with a fulfilling one
that encourages the hap-
piness of both partners
A closer look at survey
figures finds the remarriage
rate climbing, alongside the
divorce rate.
Five-sixths of divorced
men and three-fourths of
divorced women eventually
remarry within an average
of three years.
Men with higher incomes
remarry more rapidly than
those with lower incomes.
Except for females over 35
and men over 50, the chances
for remarriage are very
good.
