paring their exhibits for the up-
coming 1985 Youth Fair that will

studeni: throughout the county,
many students are expected to
participate in this Youth Fair

RioWithdraws From Clothing Division
Bn CYNTHIA SOUS
The F.H.A clothing division for
the youth fair is one event Rio High
students have withdrawn from
years ago, due to the lack of time
and conflict with the teaching of
the essential elements.
Although it has been abolished
for the Rio Grande City members,
it continues for San Isidro and
Roma According to Mrs Ninfa
Lopez, one of the instructors of the
Rio F.H.A., San Isidro is the school
who will have wide-open opportuni-
ty to place.
Mrs. Lopez said the reason was
that San Isidro F.H.A. is being
taught by one teacher the whole
school year, which provides enough
time for the students to prepare for
a project.
The F H A department of Rio
Grande City must be shared by
three teachers and is used every
period Students switch teachers
every semester, which reduces
student time for preparation of a
project.
"In order to make time for a
project some of the essential
elements must be left out and it's
state mandatory, so we must
continue with state mandates and
not local ones," stated Mrs Ninfa
Lopez Mrs Lopez said that, to her,
not participating in the clothing
division was less pressure. "One
thing you don't have to worry of is
a certain deadline "
The only hope for participating in
this division in the future is to
change the date of the Youth Fair
to May toward the end of the
second semester providing time for
the students to organize a project,
said Mrs Lopez
Fewer Seience Exhibits Expected
By AMANDA PEN A
Due to a change in course
requirements at Rio High, we can
expect to see fewerscience exhibits
at the Starr County Youth Fair this
Saturday.
At this point there will be from 60
to 70 projects entered from Rio
High, and about 50 to 60 projects
from Ringgold Jr High
"I feel there will be less projects
entered this year than in other
years, mainly because it is not
required from all classes, only
from advanced classes, said Mrs
Rosa Chapa Rodriguez, science
instructor at Rio Grande City High
School
The schools entering the science
division are Rio Grande City High
and Jr High Schools, San Isidro
High School and Roma High
School
There will be ten judges, among
them professors from Pan Ameri-
can University, and Valley doctors
The judging for the science pro-
jects will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday
morning till about 1 p rn. The
projects will be judged on creative
ability, scientific thought,
thoroughness, skill, and clarity
